Show SAVE THE FORESTS Secretary of Agriculture Wallace declares approval of the Mc-Nary-Clarke bill for forest conservation and production and gives some startling figures in support of his warning. There are large forest assets about 250,000,000 acres partly part-ly stocked with culled and second growth timber and about 81,-000,000 81,-000,000 acres of practically barren cut-over and burned land. Our country is consuming timber about four times as fast as it is being replaced, and under the present lack of policy "no new growth of wood has adequately taken the place of the virgin timber that has been removed. The timber remaining will be a better asset than was the timber that has been taken. Consumers will pay for the diminshed supply in ever-rising prices. |
