Show John Tuft's Body Is Found Monday The body of John Tuft, which was swept out into the Ocean at Huntington Hunt-ington Beach, California, on the 18th of this month, was recovered Monday Mon-day evening of this week, just nine days elapsing since Mr. Tuft lost his life. A vigihyrt watch had been kept day and night and constantly the beach was combed in the hopes that the waters would give up its dead and it was not until the ninth day that the body was recovered. Further details of the tragic ending end-ing of John Tuft have been received. On Sunday, May 18, a party of friends, including the one who lost his life, his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tuft, Mr. and Mrs. John Larson, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Larson and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Knighton, all former residents, had planned a party 'to Huntington Beach. The major portion por-tion of the party were in the ocean bathing and Mr. Larson and John Tuft were conversing when the former form-er left for shore. When Larson was near the shore he turned to look and John was missing. First it was thought he was either obscured by a large wave or diving. A few minutes passed and when the bather did not appear the alarm was given and life guards were hastily summoned. A search was immediately started, but without results and it is supposed that the body of the unfortunate bather had been caught in the heavy undertow and carried out into the ocean. The body of John Tuft is being brought to Gunnison for burial. The remains will be taken from the train at Juab and transported to Gunnison by auto and will arrive here sometime some-time today. It is being accompanied by the father, J. A. Tuft, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tuft and the grief stricken strick-en widow, Mrs. Jean Tuft. Funeral services have been arranged arrang-ed for tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 and the ceremonies will more than likely be held at the home of the father, J. A. Tuft. Arrangements thus far have been completed to have the ex-service men take a part in the services. Announcement has been made that the firing squad will fire the customary military .salute and taps for the departed comrade will be sounded. The body will be placed in the family burial plot in the Gunnison cemetery. |
