Show To Mark- Birthplace of Virginia Dare MA.N'TIOO, N. C. A movement has been started by a group of citizens to permanently mark historical spots, and one of the places to be designated by a monument, If the plans materialize, Is the birthplace of Virginia Dan-, the first white child born on American soil. The spot Is on Roanoke island, often referred to as "the cradle of the I-ingllsh race In America." There Is some doubt as to the exact Fpot where Virginia Dare was horn, hut It Is believed to he near Fort Ra-ielgh, Ra-ielgh, about three miles north of linn-teo. linn-teo. Mounds of earth forming the sides ff a pentagon, at each angle of which Is a stone post protruding about a foot from the ground, show the locution of the old fort.
