Show Gunnison Valley Sugar Company First to Pay Bonus for 1923 Beets Approximately $50,000 Will Reach the Growers Next Monday and In Time to Serve as Christmas Present. Following close upon the distribution of $250,000 among the beet growers within its territory, comprising the minimum payment for beets, the management of the Gunnison Valley Sugar company is addressing a letter to the growers announcing the payment of the first bonus. The bonus will amount to $1.50 per ton and incidentally incident-ally it will arrive in time to serve as a Christmas present, the checks being mailed out so as to reach the growers on Christmas Eve, and the amount to be distributed in the first bonus will be approximately approximate-ly $50,000. By making the advanced payment at this time, the Gunnison Valley Sugar company establishes a new record and it has the distinction dis-tinction of paying the first dividend of any of the sugar companies in the western country. The letter which will accompany the bonus checks and which is being mailed from the Salt Lake offices, will be as follows: December 22, 1923 Enclosed you will find our check, computed at the rate of $1.50 T O OUR BEET GROWERS : per ton, covering the settlement due on February 15th next under your sliding scale contract, for deliveries of beets to this company during the current season. We have decided to make this payment about two month" ahead of the time it is due, and in advance of the holidays, to help you meet your Christmas obligations, and also as a token of the good will this company feels for its growers, whose cooperation means so much to the prosperity of the sugar industry. The payment of this check at this time, is made possible by the large amount of our sugar which we have already been able to dispose dis-pose of. ; Including this check, all our growers have now received $7.00 per ton for their current year's beets. Although we cannot, at this time, make any definite promises to the amount of the subse- quent settlements that will be made for these beets, from present ' indications we are led to believe that the growers of beets for this I company will eventually receive a total in excess of $8.50 per ton. j Further settlements will be made and checks mailed to our growers ! at the earliest possible moment. i And, while we thank you for your past support, may we not urge ! upon you the advisability of continuing to pass prosperity around ; by planting an even larger crop of beets in 1 924 than you have done in the past. What other crop could you produce which assures 1 for you such a large and certain income? ! In conclusion,, it hardly seems necessary to advise all our beet growers and their families to insist on Diamond Brand when buying ! sugar, since the local demand increases not only the sale, but the ! price, of this home product, and gives the growers an opportunity to show support to their own company. Wishing you the Season's Greetings, we are Sincerely yours, 1 W. HARVEY ROSS, President. |
