Show Auspicious Opening Of Valley Schools Willi an increased attendance over la:.l year and with classes and school woi k organized for an aggressive campaign for the winter work, the Gunnison Valley high school and the Washington public school starts out encouragingly. More than the usuhl interest is being shown both by instructors in-structors and pupils and every indication indi-cation points to a most successful term. At the high school, according to a member of the faculty, 120 were registered for the opening day. This is a decided increase over last year and the fact that some of the pupils are yet to be enrolled for the year's work speaks volumes for the year's atendance. At the high school the class organizations have been perflated per-flated and today the seniors are giving giv-ing the first program. Another encouraging en-couraging feature is the fact that there are more boys in attendance and this is particularly noticeable in the freshmen class. There is a slight decrease in attendance at-tendance at the Washingtin public school. On the opening day the registration re-gistration showed 279 pupils enrolled. enroll-ed. Last year the attendance on the opening day was 292. The shortage this year is given for the reason that many families have removed elsewhere. else-where. The attendance, however, yesterday was 289 and it is believed that within the next week or so the school attendance will reach close to the 300 mark. Like the high school, the classes at the Washington are now organized and all students aje settling down to real work. A plan is being worked out that may result in better music teaching at all the schools. Eugene Faux, musical director at the high school, may add the Washington school in this city, and the Lincoln school at Centerfield, to his list. Mr. Faux has had wide experience in musical instruction and direction and if the present plans work out each of the schools will have special instructions in this particular work. |
