Show REPEAL, BY ALL MEANS. There is a movement now under way which will undoubtedly result in the repeal of Utah's anti-cigarette law when the next legislature convenes. con-venes. The Sun favors such action for the reason .that the law has been nothing more than a joke as it has not stopped either the sale or the use of cigarettes. Throughout the state, with possibly a few exceptions excep-tions in small agricultural towns, cigarettes can be purchased. About the only thing that the law has done is to deprive the Utah newspapers of the advertising which ordinarily would have been given them by tobacco to-bacco companies. In addition to this the stale has been given a lot of unfavorable advertising. Cigarette sales in Utali have kept up to normal nor-mal if they have not actually increased. in-creased. The next man that Carbon county sends to the legislature ought lo go there with instructions to thel;i repeal this and a lot of other foolish measures now on the statute books. Price Sun. Sun. We believe Brother Crocket voices the sentiment of the majority of the ncnsible voters of the state of Utah when he advocates the repeal of the cigarette law as it reads on the stat- lite books today. Ever since its enactment en-actment it has been broken and with the weakness back of it there is every ev-ery liklihood that smokers will continue con-tinue to enjoy the weed irrespective of laws that are passad to prevent it. If the law makers will go into legislature with the intention of making mak-ing sensible laws and laws that can be enforced, they will win the everlasting ever-lasting gratitude of their constituents. constitu-ents. Forget the "granny" laws and give us something sensible. |
