Show SANPETE COUNTY EXTENSION NEWS. Cooperative Marketing At a meeti ing held recently at Axteil it was very evident that the farmers were dissatisfied with present conditions and especially with the present market prices. In fact some of the farmers present were on the verge of calling a strike. However, after the qestion was thoroughly discussed discuss-ed it was decided that some other action would result in the most good. President Cox of the county farm bureau, David N. Beal, vice-president vice-president of the state organization, and the county agent were in attendance attend-ance at the meeting. Practically all of the farmers of Axteil were present. pres-ent. It was the conclusion of those present that a system of cooperative marketing would largely correct the present ills. Of course this system must extend farther than a local, and will do so eventually but must have its beginning, until sufficient experience is gained in the various local organizations. The following-committee following-committee was appointed: C. L. Despair), Chas. Jensen and Carl Nielson. They will work out a plan of coopeartive marketing of their farm products. Women's Work Two clothing specialists, Miss Richert and Miss Adams of the College, have recently completed a tour of the county giving giv-ing demonstrations on clothing work. They demonstrated on tailored tailor-ed finishing and short cuts, and the use of sewing machine attachments. Fourteen communities of the county had project leaders present. There were 70 project leaders trained by these women. There were twelve demonstration meetings held. There was a total attendance at the demonstrations, demon-strations, including Project leaders, of 236. The project leaders pledged to put this work over to 231 other women in the various communities within six weeks' or two .months' time. Women in communities not availing themselves of the opportunities opportun-ities afforded them by the Extension service are losing chances for some real, profitable service. Poultry Interest Spreading Sanpete San-pete county now has three poultry associations completely organized and officered. The last one added to the list is Spring City. The following follow-ing comprises the list of officers of this association: Fred Kanzler, pres-dient; pres-dient; Chris Sorenson, vice-president; Carl Hansen, secretary-treasurer, and E. J. Larson and Fred Thompson, directors. It is the intention in-tention of the various associations of the county to support the cooper-aitve cooper-aitve marketing plan of the Central Utah Poultry Exchange with headquarters head-quarters at Gunnison, and Mr. Benjamin Ben-jamin Brown as manager. Potato Selection It is time now to make hill selection of potatoes for the seed plant next spring. While potatoes are cheap it is the best time to make the most careful lseection for seed purposes. Using the hill as the unit for selecting, one should take his hovel and sack and go into the field a day or two before be-fore harvesting the crop and select hills with the largest number of marketable potatoes. Potatoes that are smooth and uniform in size. By planting these selected hills in a seed plat next spring and next fall hill selecting from this plat and continuing con-tinuing this practice indefinately wil lproduce a high quality potato taht can be gotten in no other way. |
