Show Sanpete Sugar Factory Salt Lake City, Dec. 6. The Gunnison Gazette: Gentlemen For your information and so you may let the people know through the columns of your valuable aper should you so desire, we wish to call attention to the fact that the sugar beet contracts made to this company by the people of Sanpete county provide that the prices to be paid for betts by the People's Sugar company "shall be not less than the prices paid by a majority of the other sugar companies operating in Utah." From this it will be seen that the people agreeing to raise beets for us are amply protected in every way in the matter of any increase in the price of beets. In connection with this you no doubt have noted that the Utah-Idaho Sugar company and the Amalgamated Sugar company have already announced a price of $7 per ton for beets containing 15 or more of sugar, this price to be paid for the 1917 crop. This is, as we understand un-derstand it, $1.00 a ton increase in price since the last announcement made two months agp. With the prospect in view of getting get-ting such a high price next year for beets grown we certainly do not know of any crop the people of Sanpete San-pete county can raise that will be so profitable to them as the growing of sugar beets, and we sincerely hope that the good people of your county will support the new Sanpete county sugar factory by raising every acre of beets they have contracted or have agreed to raise, and with this increased increas-ed price for their product it seems to us it would certainly be to the people's peo-ple's advantage, where they can, to materially increase their beet acreage, acre-age, as it will not only inure to their benefit but will assist the factory to become firmly established the first year of its operation. In this connection it is not essential essen-tial that anyone should nave a signed contract with this company to raise beets, as we shall be glad to receive all that are grown and pay the highest high-est price therefor, so that anyone wishing to increase their present acreage or to grow beets where they have not already contracted to do so let them prepare their ground and advise us of the seed desired and we will see that the same is forthcoming. forthcom-ing. As we see it, for the best good of the people of Sanpete county and for the new factory, the more beets the better. We are sure the people of Sanpete county will be loyal to this nev institution by growing all the beets possible. Sincerely yours, John Stringham, Vice-President. |
