Show Macadam Road Economy. I have no doubt that it will surprise sur-prise most people here to learn how little material is used in the making of some of the finest roads of Europe, writes Ernest Flagg in the Century. The average thickness of the national roads of France is only five and one-eighths one-eighths inches; 11 per cent, of them are less than two Inches thick, and 42 per cent, are less than four inches thick. Yet they stand constant and 5ften heavy traffic with impunity, and are always in a perfect state of repair. re-pair.
