Show 3 I With the exception of a few informal lunch- 11 eons and dinners and the ever present bridge, H I the week has been deadly dull, as Holy week H usually is; but with the coming of Easter there MR will be a great change in the social atmosphere, 11 and society will inaugurate the new season by jjf stepping to the lively music of the orchestra Rj which will be heard at the Utah Hotel Monday Wl evening when the Press club will give its char- rn acter ball. Some of the boys are going in char- H H acter and some characterless, but it is hoped Hi that all of the hundreds of guests who are ex- H pected will be there in costumes representing H i every mode of dress from the leafy effects of ff Eden to the paniers which we are told will pre- H II vail this season. No masking will be permitted H at the great affair, the thoug t being that those B f who are beautiful should nr wear masks and H i r those who are not will appear to have them on. H Contrary to rumor, there will not be a commit- i! tee to ask, "Is that your face?" But no one HS will be in serious danger of being refused ad- H mittance no matter what ho or she may wear, just H ' so it is something. Evening clothes are permiss- H ible if nothing else is available, and for that Hi1 reason probably fifty percent of those attending B' will be dressed like human beings. Ht The boys have worked hard and faithfully ijif to make the event a greater success than past Hj performances of the Press Club, and while they Hijl will have to do considerable hurrying to excel HL' the events of other years they believe they have K, so perfected the arrangements that the history ' of hilarity will get a brand new chapter Tues- H In figuring out the number of people who M should attend, the committee made a mistake, B using the city 'directory rather than the blue book and for that reason none should be timid H about attending, for everyone is on the list. The i price is $3.00 the ticket, extra lady count her H $1.00, and you may bring as many extra ladies M as you wish, six for $5.00, if you are so jituated H that it is easier to bring them than explain H' But seriously, you must not fail to be there H It is the big laugh of the year given by the news- H paper men and your pleasure, either as a spec- H tator or a participant, will be worth a dollar a H minute. B Speaking of beauty contests, it is hard to say H which make themselves the more ridiculous' - H the judges, or the contestants, when one of H these provincial affairs is on the tapis. 1 There may possibly be some rivalry between H the Country club and the tennis club the com- H ing summer, the former dry (perhaps), and the H latter wet (perhaps). But for those who want to H get out of the heat of the town in the middle of H the day, it would seem that the Country club H had the call, though the tennis club is to be H extremely exclusive oh, my, yes limited to sev- H enty-flve or eighty-five people. And expensive, H On the bright days during the past two or 9H three weeks the golfers have been out m rorco B and if good weather continues, the tennis courts H will be in shape before long. The club house H is being renovated in preparation for a busy sea- son and the date for the formal opening will be H set in the very near future. aBBH |
