Show H Taking Precautions YOUNG men who want to capture wives had better hurry up. A report comes from Cath- K land, Illinois, of the organization of a "Moth- Lj ers' Protective Association," the object of which is H, to provide the mothers of marriageable girls with H. all desired inr rmation concerning the morals and H habits of yoi jg men that come snooping after Hi their girls. H A few of the things to be ascertained are, H whether the aspirant smokes, drinks, swears, Hi spends his evenings at home and is considerate H to his mother. And lastly the question is as to H the young man's business prospects. H This will doubtless be a satisfaction to the H mothers; we doubt about the girls caring a cent H about it, because what they want is the young H man, and if he suits, they adjust themselves to H some of his shortcomings. If they cannot do 1 away with the smoking, why some of them will M take to cigarette themselves, and they do not 1 altogether take to a boy that stays at home at H nights and looks after the house. They would Hk rather have a boy who is outside looking after M them. They want a boy who smashes around B town; they do not want a stick that would not M know how to take care of them in an assembly H or how to take them to a restaurant and give m them a dinner, or who would not know when H the performance was not good for them. H Marriage is regulated by averages, and very M many young ladies do not expect to get an abso- H lutely perfect young man. They feel a little gin- H gerly about having to conform their own lives to H a perfect young man. The question with them is, H how does he average? And beyond all that is, H has he the charm that each woman exacts for H herself? What would be good for one young lady H .would seem cruel to another, and the perfect H young man is too choice a piece of furniture to H agree to look after morning and noon and night, ffH and take so good care of that it shows pretty well B after it gets old fashioned. H We do not blame those mothers for wanting to RS know all about the young men, but their time EH can be better exploited by teaching their girls to H piok out the right fellows, and if they do not all H succeed, why there is comfort behind it all that this world is too far from being perfect by a great deal to permit all of the girls to get a perfect young man. Let each one think she has got one of that class, and then go to work and if she find? he is lacking in any particular, then she has got a life work on hand to redeem and regenerate and boss him as ho should be bossed. |
