Show COMMERCIAL CLUB TEMPEST. The meeting of the regulars and insurgents at the Commercial club the other evening to consider con-sider the advirability of raising the dues to ?60 a year instead of $40, stirred quite a tempest in a teapot, which settled with a victory for the regulars. There should be no objection on the part of anyone to the dues of the club being $60.00 a year. That is the price $5.00 a month, charged by leading lead-ing clubs all over the country; but for that figure the very best of service is given at all times and most clubs demanding such dues are in a position to give members much more than they could, were the charges $40 a year. Representative Representa-tive business men who can afford to join the club and pay $40 can certainly afford $20 a year more if the improvements in service, etc., are commensurate with the raise, and while there should be no disposition on the part of a Commercial Com-mercial organization to bid for quality rather than quantity in its membership, there is no question in the minds of those who lave thought over the matter thoroughly but that the raise is fully justified. |
