Show That was a rather vigorous document which came from Judge DIehl, in which he replied to the altogether Impudent implications of the Rev. D. A. Brown, who was arrested on a warrant through Judge Diehl's court on a charge of perjury. Mr. Diehl made It quite plain that whether or not Mr. Brown was guilty of perjury, he was at least guilty of flagrant misrepresentation. The whole affair does not amount to a great deal, except as showing that Mr. Brown was but a poor guileless tool in the1 hands of the Smoot politicians, and that an ignorant minister makes a much more imposing spectacle at a prayer meeting meet-ing than as the self-appointed judge of a prize fight. It was the most natural thing in the world that the Swedish assistant county attorney and tho district atorney should have refused to prosecute prose-cute the Reverend Brown, for the reason that these are the self-same gentlemen who urged Brown to swear to the warrant. This program having been previously decided upon at a meeting of the Republican auxiliary, the nondescript title of a nonpareil organization. The Swedish county attorney was himself the original instigator, and it seems strange that the man Brown has not yet realized what a pathetic spectacle these schemifig political athletes made of him. Mr. Brown and some of his ministerial compeers com-peers were still more ridiculous in 'the fact that they were being used unconsciously to help tlie Smoot politicians, who wished to pose as reformers reform-ers Immediately antedating the county election of this year. Surely one would travel through a long summer's day without discovering anything so inconsistent in-consistent as the sectarian ministers assisting in the spread of Smoot politics in this state, when they are ostensibly the bitterest opponents of tho ecclesiastical senator. After all the fussy ministers min-isters did not stop the prize fight; they merely succeeded in possibly crippling the chances of I the gentile party in this county. A lot of hysteri- I cal women at a quilting bee could not possibly B have made a more asinine exhibition. 1 |
