Show Tlte Light of The World. We are waiting for scientists to give up the theory which has prevailed through all time that the sun's rays directly warm the earth. How that belief has so long prevailed we cannot understand, un-derstand, because when we reach a point three miles above the earth at the equator, and less and less as we advance north and south, we come to the realm of perpetual snow. How can a something hot shine through that altitude without with-out melting snow, but become warm as it approaches ap-proaches the earth? The theory will not do. Again, the sun's rays that come to this earth shine through 93,000,001) miles of space that is much colder, hundreds of degrees colder, than ice. How can any warmtli remain in those rays after such a journey as that? It is altogether unreasonable to suppose such a thing. Warder's is the only theory ever put forth that appeals to reason. He says the sun is perpetually per-petually drawing to itself electricity from the oceans of space, and as constantly throwing it off, a natural process through the positive and negative poles of that fluid which is the life of the world; that cold is a natural conductor for electricity; that in coming to the earth it begins to warm at once when striking the earth's atmosphere, at-mosphere, and that it is electricity which warms and is the life of this world. The same results may be duplicated on a small scale whenever electricity is generated for light and power purposes. pur-poses. Another proof is that our electric light is precisely such light as that which comes from the sun. This theory adds in thought immensely to i man's conception of the majesty of nature. We H see spots on the sun. According to the same H author, that is all we ever see of it; that what we imagine is the sun is but its glorified proto- sphere, which to the sun is what our Aurora H Borealis is to our earth. And the two lights are H of precisely the same material. B This thought at once makes possible the fact I that the sun is inhabited, and with the sun all I the planets, all the far-off suns that roll on their H sublime axles through the abysses of space. That thought dwarfs our earth to a mere speck, but it B magnifies inconceivably the majesty of the uni- verse, for if all those worlds are peopled, what H intelligences some of them must possess! I And to the eye of faith, to lilm who believes In H a life beyond this life, what wonders await the awakening after the folding doors which we call death swing back to receive the waiting soul. Warder believes that our sun is the place to which the souls on all the planets go when called by death. He finds it correspond with the vision of John, a place where there Is no night; a place of fruits and flowers, a place where such temples as John describes would have room to stand. The spectroscope shows that all matter is alike in all the worlds. It Is altogether an enchanting picture, and the only one evolved through the ages which seems conclusive; and as one contemplates it the thought comes instinctively that tho soul should more and more put on its whiteness, that without with-out shame it may approach the fountain of all light. |
