Show THE CONVENTION. I The Republican Convention was what was ex pected by observant people when the Desere News manifested an absorbing interest in having (i perfectly fair showing ma.de in that convention. A goo3 many of us know just what is intended when the News suddenly becomes insistent for a square deal, and when, declaring its neutrality in politics, magnifies the duty of an independent journal to speak out on all political subjects. Yhe convention was little more than a ratification ratifi-cation meeting; a step in the carrying out of the programme which was arranged just prior to Apostle Smoot's election to the Senate. It was all right. If the American contingent was not fliuch in evidence in the convention that does hot matter. 'The American element is but a small otfo at best in this region. |
