Show TALLY ANOTHER FOR SALT LAKE. The following extract from a letter to Mr. George Barnes, of this city, from a Salt Lake friends in Paris will explain itself. It is another success for a Utah singer, and an achievement that the young lady's friends will be gratified to know of. It reads: 25 Rue do Longchamp, Paris, March 1st, 1903. Dear Mr. Barnes: Have they had any word yet of Emma Ramsey's great success? Utah to the front again! Will enclose programme minus its artistic heavy cover. She sang under Strauss in Berlin, but this was her Parisian debut. You know she was a prize winner at the Eisthefod (or whatever that unpronouncable Welch name is) in Salt Lake some four years or more ago, soon after which she came to Europe, remaining two years in Berlin and then coming here and studying ever since under Archainband, Jr. When the critics and professional people showered compliments at her; her sweet unaffected reply was, "I am glad I did not make our Utah people ashamed of me." They were out in goodly numbers to welcome her, there were some fifty Salt Lakers here, so the students tell me. The concert was not only a very great success artistically, but socially and financially, and at the last named the Parisians simply asked, "How did she manage it all; one could hear on all sides, elle est charmante; elle chante si bien; comme elle prononce bien; el!e a la voix ravis-sante! ravis-sante! and all such nice things. This Salle AEo-lian, AEo-lian, is the hall connected with the Steinway establishment es-tablishment and is one of the prettiest small modern mod-ern concert halls in Paris. Its old ivory finish studded with flowers of incandescent lights, made a very fitting background for the many beautiful toilettes. In the Loges were to be seen John W. Young and Miss Judge of New York, Baron and Baronesse Oppenheim, Prince Malcom, Miss Nora Campbell, niece of the Duke of Argyll, Mrs. Hen-shaw Hen-shaw and niece, Miss Grimes of California, M. Ducrais, Minister of the Interior, Consul General Gawdy, Misses Sherman, Rose Hartwell, Captain Wheeler, U. S. A., Professor Wolf, Mr. and Mrs. Alma Wright, Squire Coop, Mahonri Young, Mrs. Theresa Werner, Dr. Richards and family, all delighted de-lighted with her voice, finish and charming appearance. ap-pearance. We hope later to hear her at the Students' Stu-dents' Atelier, a rendezvous for Americans, and by the way, do you know that Dr. Payden of the Presbyterian church in Salt Lake organized this circle. |
