Garfield Celebrates Centennial Year Garfield County, celebrating its 100th year, welcomes you to its 5,185 square miles of unequal ed beauty. One of the most topographically varied areas in the nation, Garfield County offers the visitor the contrast of blue mountain lakes and streams with the stark, twisted conditions of Capitol Reef's Waterpocket Fold; the contrast of forests of green pines and blue spruce with the pink jewel-like jewel-like spires of Bryce Canyon. With two national parks (Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef) and a part of a third (Canyonlands), with three state parks (Kodachrome Basin State Reserve, Escalante Petrified Forest, Anasazi Indian Village), with a national recreation ' area (Glen Canyon and its beautiful Lake Powell); with natural arches and bridges, ! volacanic lakes and reservors, rivers and . sparkling streams; with wild animals (elk, bighorn sheep, buffalo, bear, mountain lions, atelope, bobcat, deer) ; with chipmunks and squirrels and skunks and foxes; with prairie dog towns and eagles and hawks; peaceful farms and ghost towns full of history-do history-do you wonder that we brag just a little?
