Best fishing is near Hatch and south along U.S. 89. Tropic Reservoir (A), generally has fair fishing although rainbow and cutthroat cut-throat trout are small. Better fishing later in the summer. A Forest Service campground is well maintained. main-tained. Wide Hollow. (B, a reservoir, was treated last fall. It has been restocked and should provide fair fishing. There is a good campground on the east side maintained by Utah Parks and Recreation (Escalante Petrified Forest). Some of the nation's best Ashing may be found in Garfield County from the high mountain lakes and streams to the valley's rivers and awesome Lake Powell, formed on the Colorado River when the Glen Canyon Dam was built in 1966. Fishing licenses may be purchased in most hardware stores and some general stores in almost every town in the county. Utah residents can purchase pur-chase a license for $10.50. Licenses for non-residents of Utah cost $5 for a one-day license; $15 for a five-day license; and $35 for an annual an-nual license. General fishing conditions and locations of lakes and streams are listed for the convenience of the visitor to Garfield County: Antimony Creek (A), one of several creeks or streams in the county yielding good fishing for wild rainbows during most of the summer. Antimony Lake should be good for 34 to 1-lb. rainbow trout. Access is limited to 4-wheel 4-wheel drive or walk-in only. Asay Creek (A), near Hatch is stocked with cat-chable cat-chable rainbow. Much of the creek is on private land. Deer Lake (B) provides fair to good fishing for brook and cutthroat trout ranging from xk and 3 lb. The road into the lake is closed and access is by foot via a 2-mile trail. Shore fishing is difficult. dif-ficult. Garkane Power Plant Reservoir (B), is stocked with catchable rainbows and provides fair to good fishing. A small reservoir. Lower Bowns Reservoir B), has difficult access this year because of continued road construction on the Boulder-Grover Road. Fishing is only fair because last fall a dam was constructed, con-structed, the water drained low and only half the usual number of fish stocked. Mammoth Creek (A), has the upper headwater area and the lower end near U.S. 89 stocked with catchable rainbows. The middle section is not stocked but contains a good population of wild brown trout. Camping is very limited along Mammoth Mam-moth Creek due to private lands, but available near Panguitch Lake. Oak Creek B), is stocked with rainbows and wild brown trout are available. Oak Creek camp-' ground is a Forest Service maintained site. Fishing conditions and access are questionable at Oak Creek Reservoir this year with a new dam under construction; con-struction; the lake was partially drained last year. Panguitch Creek (A) is stocked with catchable rainbow and brown trout populations exist in the lower areas of the stream. Camping is limited mostly to the Forest Service campground cam-pground located on the creek (Whitebridge). Panguitch Lake (A), is good for rainbow trout averaging 11 inches and 3 4 lb. There are also a few larger fish including some cutthroat and brown trout. Shore fishing may sometimes be good, but fishing is generally better from boats. Two public boat ramps are available. Five resorts offer cabins, boats, licenses, gas and groceries. A new general store offers additional grocery items. A large Forest Service campground cam-pground is near the lake. Pine Lake (A), is stocked with catchable rainbow trout with a few cutthroat trout available. A nice Forest Service campground is near the lake. Posey Lake (B), should provide good to excellent fishing through the season. It is stocked with catchable rainbow. Some brook trout from one to three pounds can also be expected. Posey Lake has a good campground cam-pground maintained by the Forest Service. Sevier River, East Fork (A), is a small stream above Tropic Reservoir with many side tributaries which supports wild cutthroat and brook trout fishing. Sevier River, East Fork Black Canyon (A), is open all year and offers brown, cutthroat and rainbow trout fishing. Sevier River, South Fork (A) is stocked with catchable cat-chable rainbows after spring runoff. The stream is on private land and camping is |
