Show Panguitch City Council Meets PANGUITCH Mayor Jon Torgerson presided over the regularly reg-ularly scheduled Panguitch City Council meeting Tuesday, Sept. 25. He was joined By city council coun-cil members Mack Oetting, Dennis Orton, Janet Oldham, and Rick'Swanger and Attorney Wallace A. Lee. City Manager Allen Henrie, Recorder Cindy Johnson and councilman Greg Payne were all absent. '. Memorial for Sept. 11 Event '.. Those in attendance held a One minute of silence in honor of all of those who were killed, injured and affected by the terrorists ter-rorists attacks on the twin towers tow-ers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and the plane crash in Somerset County, Penn. on Sept. 11, 2001. Upcoming Meeting Janet Oldham announced she would be attend the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) training meeting held Sept. 26 at the Panguitch Fire Station. Recreational Facility Rick Swanger made a motion to adopt Resolution 2001-2 on Recreational Facilities. The motion passed all in favor. Salvage Yard Orson Worthen was not in attendance but discussion was held regarding various options that are available regarding a salvage yard. The matter was tabled until Worthen could be in attendance. Junk Vehicle Problem in Community Attorney Wallace Lee report (See COUNCIL on pg. 3A) Panguitch City Council From Front Page ed that he had reviewed an ordinance ordi-nance from Orem City regarding junk vehicles and many other nuisances. He expressed to the council what a good ordinance it is and that Panguitch should consider adopting a similar one. It is an aggressive ordinance and spells out the steps to take to correct nuisance violations. A motion was made to have Attorney Lee draft an ordinance for Panguitch City similar to the one for Orem City. A public hearing date will be set for review of this ordinance. Olympic Torch Meeting Update Mack Oetting reported on a meeting he attended regarding the Olympic Torch Run to be held at Bryce Canyon. It will run from Sunrise to Sunset Points at 1 p.m. on Feb. 4, 2002. John Yardley had been nominated nominat-ed to represent Garfield County as the torch bearer for that run. It is hoped there will be a good crowd for the event. The elementary ele-mentary school will be excused so the children can attend. Oetting said there is a need for a committee to plan events to be held in conjunction with the Torch Run. A motion was made to appoint Oetting as chairman of the Olympic Planning Committee. Water Project - Public Hearing It was noted that City Manager Allen Henrie is in the process of seeking an extension on the meeting requirements for funding of the Panguitch Water Project. It is important that a public hearing be held as soon as possible. A motion was made to set the public hearing as soon as the requirements have been met for the water project application. appli-cation. This needs to be done before Nov. 13. Eagle Scout - Laurel Project Presentations Tyler Barney and his mother, Cindy Barney were in atten- dance for Tyler to make his Eagle Scout proposal and explain his sister's Laurel Project. They have selected to do a joint "Make A Difference" Day project where they would like to raise enough money to purchase a book for every child in elementary school and organize organ-ize volunteers to read to the children chil-dren on Friday, Nov. 16. He asked if the city would donate $100 toward their goal. A motion was made to donate $100 with all votes in favor. Baseball Complex Some concerns were expressed regarding scheduling of events at the baseball complex com-plex for next year. That scheduling sched-uling must be done now in order to get teams to come. Allen Henrie will be instructed to get in touch with Greg Excell to make some phone calls and finalize some plans. Multi Purpose Event Center Council members discussed some apparent problems at the Canyon Country Complex -Triple C Arena. It seems that some groups are not cleaning up after using the facility, there is an abuse with some using all the lights when only a few are necessary nec-essary and the no-tie policy is not being enforced. Mayor Torgerson will meet with City Manager Allen Henrie to discuss these concerns. Department Reports Library Board The Library Board was complimented com-plimented for the good job they are going. Animal Shelter Issue Mack Oetting reported he took sic more dogs to Kanab to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. This is a total of 40 dogs that have been taken in the past few months. Senator Bennett Meet The mayor, city manager and some council members met with Senator Bob Bennett to discuss a proposal for a National Mormon Heritage area and the Great Western Trails which goes from Mexico to Canada. There was. discussion to include the Piute and Fremont trails. USU Extension Panguitch City Council members mem-bers would like to ask Garfield County Commissioners to encourage Utah State University to hire someone in Lucile Proctor's place as a home economist. econ-omist. Industrial Park Clifford Hatch is attempting to clean up his wood cutting business on his personal property. proper-ty. He has asked Panguitch City if he could have a piece of property prop-erty in the Industrial Park. Weed Removal It was discussed that Panguitch needs to do some weed eating on the city rights- of way. Public Safety Facility ' Some concern was expressed regarding releasing of inmates from the Public Safety Facility in Panguitch. |
