Show Garfield Republicans To Convene Apr. 10 In Tropic Utah's new Attorney General Mark Shurtleff will be the featured speaker at Garfield County's Republican Re-publican Convention set for Bryce Valley High School on Wednesday, Apr. 18, at 7 pm. Representative Tom Hatch will report on the recent Utah Legislative Legis-lative session and Utah State Auditor Audi-tor Auston Johnson will outline the activities of his office at the Capitol. Scheduled speaker Congressman Con-gressman Chris Cannon whose daughter is recovering from cancer surgery expressed sincere regrets that he will be unable to attend but said he will send a personal video. A staff member will hand carry the video and announce hearings on the Grand Staircase-Escalante Monument Monu-ment to be held locally in early June. The staff member will ask for questions from those attending the convention and report back to Cannon. Shurtleff and the other elected officials will conduct an open question ques-tion and answer session. The leadership j of the County Republican Party for ! the next two years will be chosen. 1 The Teenage Republicans will hold a concurrent convention at ; Bryce Valley High School following follow-ing the Attorney General's talk. The Garfield County TARS will be honored in June by the state party leadership for being the most active GOP youth group in Utah. The young officers will have lunch at the Salt Lake City headquarters and tour the Capitol as part of their weekend trip to accept the award. All students from 7- 12th grades are invited to attend, and to run for office. The teenagers assist with many county-wide nonpartisan activities such as voter registration and Get-Out- The-Vote campaigns. The public is welcome to come and bring their neighbors. The evening will begin at 6:30 with a pot-luck dinner and those attending are asked to bring a dish to serve 8.
