Show Escqlqntc Hews By Marlene Haws 826-4859 We are proud of our high school rodeo boys this summer! Mike Porter and Dace Chynoweth both roped well at state finals in Heber City. Flint and Klay Chynoweth finished in 10th place at state, which qualified them for the International finals in Fallon, Nevada during the 4th of July weekend. They both made a good showing there and had a great time. They also finished in 4th place at the Panguitch Invitational Rodeo during the week of the 24th of July. Mike Porter and Dace Chynoweth also participated there in the team roping and did well. The Escalante LDS 2nd Ward has a new bishopric. Alan Torger-son Torger-son is the new bishop, Marvin Porter and Craig Sorenson are his counselors. The outgoing bishopric was Dal Liston, bishop, and Alan Torgerson and Link Chynoweth, counselors. Summer reunions are still going on. Some family members need to be in two places on the same day, so have to choose the familv that is closer in relationshirj. r That isn't always easy, but we do what we have to do, right? Lee and Kathleen Williams were able to hit two reunions on the same trip. First they went to Montana for the reunion of Kathleen's family, the Halls. Then on their way home they attended Lee's, Williams family, reunion in Logan Canyon. They took their trailer, took their time going and coming and had a great time. The Clyde and Lilly Spencer family held their reunion in Richfield. It was hosted by Doug and Marie Loosle, of Richfield. J. C. and Opal Spencer came from Springville; Jim and Jolyn Spencer, from Orem; Talmage and Venice Taylor, from Sandy; Vergean and Carolyn Porter, Escalante; And, of course, grandkids and great grandkids were also in attendance. It will be Jim's turn to host next year and his son, John, has volunteered to help! , Descendants of Frank and Minnie Haws gathered on the weekend week-end for their annual reunion, with 50 in attendance. Nedra Tucker and Bessie Lightheizer came from Morgan, Mor-gan, Woodrow and Dorothy Gled-hill Gled-hill and daughter Karen came from Colorado to represent Albert and Jenny Haws Gledhill. Kerlynn Gledhill's daughter, Nancy, and husband George, from Colorado represented him. Bill and Dawn Griffin, Escalante and Renon Peterson, Peter-son, Boulder, represented the family fam-ily of Will and Mandy Haws Peterson. Klyn and Marlene Haws, Don Haws, Phyllis Alvey and great granddaughter, Kerri, Donnie Randall, Ran-dall, Ray and Lois Barney represented repre-sented the Dee and Elda Haws family. fam-ily. Arnold and Deon Alvey, Betty Alvey, Frank and Angie Alvey and two daughters, Katie Alvey (daughter (daugh-ter of Tony Alvey) represented the family of James and Sariah Haws (See ESCALANTE on page 4-A) ESCALANTE From Page 2-A Alvey, as did Jim and Lola Alvey, Steve and LaVee Wiscombe, all of Mapleton, and Anthony and Dot Coombs, Boulder. EvaDean Liston also accompanied Jim and Lola. Frankie, daughter of Ethan and Wanda Hansen, Layton, brought part of her family also. Ethan is quite seriously ill and wasn't able to come this year. They were missed. Representing the family of Henry and Maude Haws were: Neal and Faye Jepsen, Boulder, Jim and Alene Haws, Torrey and Geneveive Weir, who traveled the most miles to get here. She lives in Philadelphia, Philadel-phia, Pennsylvania. Velma Boulter, Kenneth and Marie Griffin represented repre-sented the Roland and Mina Haws Porter family and J. C. and Eva Haws, Brigham City, represented the Claude and Nan Haws family. It was noted that Haws Porter is having problems and was in the Utah Valley medical Center in Provo. Hope he is well soon. Ruby Griffin, Gerald Black and Pauline Lott went to Monroe for a John and Dora Black family reunion. The family of Harve and Lasca Bailey were the hosts. This includes Ken and Roma Clark, Bud and Joy Gates, Pratt and Geraldine Munson, Wayne and Venid Bailey,-all Bailey,-all of the Salt Lake area. Also in attendance were Merle Gillins and Vie Louise Marshall, Minersville; Milt and Vi Jolley, Hurricane; Johnny and Sonja Black, Las Vegas, Nevada; Vernon and Peg Roundy, Monroe; Gene and Renon Reed, Richfield; David and Joyce Black, Olympia, Washington; Jim and Jolyn Spencer and John and (See ESCALANTE on page 5-A) ESCALANTE From Page 4-A Corrine Spencer, Orem. With children, chil-dren, grandchildren, and all, there were around 75 in attendance. Layne Woolsey is in the Valley View Medical Center, in Cedar City, following extensive surgery. We send him get well wishes and hope he can soon be home to recover. Golda Cottam is visiting in Nevada with her son Bryce and family. I wasn't here for the 24,h of July celebration but I am still hearing about people who were here from out of town. So, to name a few, here goes: Betty Alvey had her whole family here. The family of Ben and Renee Porter all came back again. Boyd and LaNell Cottam visited at the home of Cecil and Carrie Griffin. |
