Initiatives are also on some ballots. bal-lots. While casting a ballot, voters may check on their voter registration. regis-tration. The Republican Party has chosen to close its future primaries pri-maries to only voters registered as Republicans. In order to choose from among several GOP candidates in the primary election next June a voter must have registered in advance as a Republican. The Garfield County Clerk will make ample voter re-registration applications applica-tions available at each polling place on Tuesday. In past years, the voter regis tration application did not have a space for party designation. Citizens who have voted each election for many years and are accustomed to calling for a Republican ballot may wish to check their old records at the polls. The closure of the primary ballot allows each political party to choose its own candidates for general election without influence influ-ence from another party's voters. vot-ers. As always, the general election elec-tion remains open and citizens may vote for whomever they wish in every office. The extensive nonpartisan Get-Out-The-Vote drive is being manned by volunteer high school students and is organized by the Garfield County Teenage Republicans. Their goal is to encourage adults to make their opinions heard on a local level. As a result of these phone campaigns, cam-paigns, the percentage of all Garfield voters going to the polls has risen to among the highest in Utah. The youth will place posters in each town reminding everyone every-one to vote, and will assist polling judges with hot meals, errands and babysitting. They can , also forward requests for rides to the polls to adult leaders. Every student participating receives a scholarship letter of commendation for civic service.
