Show By Marlene Haws 826-4859 A large group of friends and relatives assembled in the Escalante LDS Second Ward to hear Dustin Shakespear report his mission last Sunday. Close friends and relatives went to the home of Ed and Camille Shakespear afterward for a homecoming dinner for Dustin. The program in the First Ward was centered around fathers, since it was Father's Day. The speakers were Amy Koyle, Melanie Oyler and Jan Liston. The Primary children sang two songs about "Father" and Heather Koyle sang a song called, "No Greater Hero." Ryan Cottam has moved to Orem and is working with his cousin, Travis Cottam. The Escalante Ladies reunion went off last Saturday, in Richfield, without a hitch. Vaunda Willis was in charge and, with the help of Susie Schow Thurston, it was a very nice afternoon. Vaunda brought her mother-in-law Nelda Willis. It was great to see her again. She looks real good and everyone enjoyed getting to visit with her again. Fifteen ladies who now live in Escalante were in attendance: Deon Alvey, Betty Al-vey, Al-vey, Velma Boulter, Ardis Chris-tensen, Chris-tensen, Carrie Griffin, Ruby Griffin, Grif-fin, Marlene Haws, Carolyn Porter, Golda Cottam, Clea Woolsey, Gar-neal Gar-neal Smith, Beth Smith, Margean Schow, and Montel Revord. Mary Ellen Coleman was there with her four daughters, Cleva Swindle, Irene Brown, Donna Rae Barker and Valerie Davies. Some of the ladies went around by Boulder and picked Connie Jepsen up. If you haven't driven the Boulder Mountain lately, you should do it! It is beautiful right now. So green and pretty. The ladies were sad to learn, after they got there, that one of their most faithful attenders, Nea Ramsay Ram-say had just lost her husband Don Ramsay the day before. Our sincere condolences to her. Beth Hainey Stott, Twila Michelangelo, Afton Church King, Ann Heaps Dalebout, Kenna Spencer Holly and Reneon Reed were there from Richfield. (See ESCALANTE page 7A) ESCALANTE From Page 3 Renon' s Daughter, Dianne Pierce came from Redmond. And coming from the Northern part of the state were: Arta Beth Pollock, Hene Coffman, her daughter and daughter-in-law, (sorry I didn't get their names), Maxine Alvey and a granddaughter, grand-daughter, Lorena Larsen Langston, Joy Gates and Roma Clark. Vie Louise Marshall and Merle Gillins came from Minersville. They played a game. I guess you could call it "Name that Nickname"! It is surprising the Escalante nicknames that people had tacked onto them. And they stuck! But it was fun reminiscing and telling something about each one. Clorene Vidrine had two grandsons, grand-sons, visiting on the weekend, Tyson Ty-son and Andrew Vidrine, sons of Marty and Debbie Vidrine, River-ton. River-ton. She said they were a big help cleaning the basement, washing the car, etc. Chances are Grandma fed them well too! The tree doctors have been busy around town, taking some trees out and trimming a lot of others. It keeps everyone busy watering and trying to stay ahead of the heat. In days past we didn't think we needed air conditioners in Escalante, but they feel mighty good nowadays! Maybe some of us are just getting older? Couldn't be! Kenneth and Marie Griffin had their two daughters, Trudy and DeLoa, here for a while after the Porter Reunion. Then they went to Provo for a few days, but they are back now. Maybe Kenneth could tell you where the good fishing holes are! |
