Show i USCALMJ7G NUl'JS t By Marlene Haws 826-4859 . Betty Alvey, Frank and Angie Alvey and their three little girls went to South Jordan for the ' LDS missionary farewell meet-: meet-: ing for Jeff Tait. Jeff is a son of ! Greg and Irene Tait. He will ; leave on Oct. 1 and will be ; going to Brazil. The Alveys also visited with the family of Jay and Linda Stokes, Riverton; Ray and Sylvia Alvey, Roy, and ' Wanda Hansen, Layton. They all enjoyed a lovely luncheon at ! the Tait home following the ; meeting. ; Tony Alvey and his partner ; have moved their trucking com-; com-; pany to Warmsetter, Wyo.r (between Rawlings and Rock Springs). They haul gravel and a lot of water to the oil rigs in ! the area. Mike Woolsey works in the same area on one of the ; rigs and he and Tony met up a while back and got caught up on all the Escalante news. The Sons of the Utah Pioneers group enjoyed their last camping trip of the summer at the old CCC camp site on the mountain. Those who camped, from Wednesday to Saturday, were: Daryl and Mary Shumway, Bob and Mavis Munson, Clem and Joyce Griffin, Dan and Lois Spencer and Cal and Martha Schow. Joining them on Friday for dinner din-ner were: Ben and Renee Porter, Howard and Sandra Miller, Jerry and Sherree Roundy. (Hope I didn't miss anyone.) An LDS stake high council party was held at the home of Jerry and Sherree Roundy with lots of food and good entertainment. entertain-ment. Brent and Kathy Griffin accompanied Bob and Mavis Munson, Clem and Joyce Griffin, Sherree Roundy and Daryl Shumway as they sang patriotic songs and presented a program centered around Sept. 11. The annual Garfield County Senior Citizen Party was held at the Bryce Pioneer Village in Tropic last weekend with Deon Alvey in charge and a large crowd in attendance. Chicken and Steak dinners were served and the entertainment was by the Mecham Sisters (Deon Alvey, Marlene Haws and Geraldine Liston) and our county coun-ty commissioner Clare Ramsay. They sang some of the "old songs" and Clare even did some from "army days". The crowd also enjoyed a sing-a-long. Our two other county commissioners, commission-ers, Dell LeFevre and Maloy Dodds were also in attendance. We were glad to see Pat Sorensen and Montel Revord at the party. Pat recently was involved in a car .roll-over as she was returning from Posey Lake. (Won't they ever oil that road?) She is doing fine, just a few bruises yet. She was lucky! Montel suffered a fall a while back and still walks with a little accent! It was good to see that both ladies are on the mend. Cecil Griffin had surgery in Cedar City last week. He suffered suf-fered a little set-back a time or two but seems to be doing better now. Margean Schow had a visit recently from her sisters-in law (Vernon Stowe's sisters.) Dotty Rushton and Gladys and Ken Rowley from Salt Lake City. Margean's sister, Twila Michelangelo, Richfield, visited here also. A group of ladies got together togeth-er to have cake and ice cream with Clea Woolsey who was having a birthday. The group included Clea, Golda Cottam, Beth Smith, Ruby Griffin, Clorene Vidrine, Betty Alvey and granddaughter Mandy, Marlene Haws, Velma Boulter, Deon Alvey, Twila Mclnelly, Julie Ford and Clea's daughter-in-law, Pat Woolsey, was also there to help sing "Happy Birthday." It was Rolain Alvey 's birthday the same day but she was in Cedar City visiting visit-ing the dentist and the family of her daughter Dana Alvey. Iola Woolsey is home from the hospital after a two-month stay. Welcome home, Iola, hope you will be up and at it again soonT I had an email letter from June Van Hemert yesterday. She has been having some health problems, but is doing okay again. Her granddaughter Mellissa Lord, daughter of Don and Lana Liston Lord, was married mar-ried on Sept. 28 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. That makes four Escalante related weddings on that day. A busy summer for weddings. Clayne Coleman's timber crew had a few days off so Tie and Gary Harding treated the whole crew to four days at Lake Powell. Enjoying their four-day ' holiday were: "Daryl and Angelique Griffin, Shane and Stephanie Steed, Joe, and Tracie Sidwell, Jim and Rhonda Barney, Layne Stowe and Georgette Costigan, Dawna Gladden and John Jones, Alan Shelley, Alan Overall, Duncan Steed, Brandon Steed, Gary Harding, Clayne and Lori Coleman, Holly Coleman and Richard Divers. They had a great time and finally, on the last day, got Angelique in the water! Don't know if she swims now or not! Vernon and Peg Roundy, Monroe, spent a few days at their home here cleaning up and getting ready for the winter months. They enjoyed visiting family and friends and lunch at the senior citizen center on Tuesday. Jim Caldwell checked in with the first kill of the black powder deer hunt.-(I said CHECKED IN. Thanks, Rose for calling.) He got a four point buck on the mountain by Roundy Reservoir. Jack Lowe of Las Vegas, who also owns a home here, went along to keep Jim company. Jim shot the deer only two hours into the hunt! Rose says he usually waits until the last day or two! Tyler and Lisa Lyman and Donnie and Gwen Porter went to Mesquite, Nev., to celebrate Tyler's and Lisa's wedding anniversary. (21 years?) Then they met Rolain Alvey, Dana Alvey, Lisa Alvey and Jenifer Lyman in St. George for dinner and a shopping spree. Said they had a good time just being together. Virginia Sanford has had surgery sur-gery on her foot again so she won't be kicking too high for a while. But I'll bet it won't slow her down for long. We were sorry to learn of Gloria Porter's roll over in her brand new car. But glad that she is okay. You can replace cars! |
