Show 2nd Annual Potato Festival In Escalante ESCALANTE Escalante - will be the site of the Second Annual Potato FestivalArt-in-the-Park event set for Friday, Oct. 12, and the community extends a warm invitation to residents across the county. Sponsors promise something for everyone as the schedule kicks off on Friday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. with featured speaker Bart Anderson, Utah Humanities Council with cultural cultur-al folktales of southern Utah at the Community Center. Saturday's Heritage Park festivities fes-tivities will run from noon until 4 p.m., behind Griffin's Groceries. A city wide all-day clean-up will take place with free dump privileges from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. No curbside services will be provided this year. A Potato Recipe Contest will take place from 12 until 12:30 p.m. with categories to temp the judges such as best hot dish, -cnW dish, and most original. Participants are asked to bring an already-prepared dish for tasting and a recipe to share. Prizes will be awarded. A Community Pot Luck Lunch will run from 12:30 till 1:30 p.m. with residents asked to bring their own plates, utensils and drinks as well as a dish-of-choice to share. Karen Peterson will entertain intermittently between 1 and 4 p.m. A genuine Mr. Potato Head contest with both an adult and children's class will be featured from 1:30 until 1:45 p.m. Prizes will also be given here with contestants con-testants asked to use only real potatoes and natural decorations. decora-tions. No plastic Mr. Potato Heads will be accepted. The Largest Pumpkin contest will be held from 1:45 to 2 p.m. Bring your pumpkin, judges will be on hand and also award prizes. Children's games will run from 2 until 3 p.m. for children chil-dren of all ages 1-100. A Classic Antique Car and. Motorcycle Display will run from noon until 4 p.m. Cars wi.'l be parked around the north and east ends of the perimeter of (he park. Car owners who do not want people climbing on vehicles vehi-cles are advised to bring a Keep Off sign. Chamber board members mem-bers will be watching cars for added security. An Art Exhibit from noon until 4 p.m. Local artists are encouraged to bring their work by 11:30 a.m. in order to organize by noon. Artists are responsible for their own artwork and art hanging supplies. A Farmer's Market will run from noon until 4 p.m. where anyone wishing to sell, trade or give away excess garden produce pro-duce is invited to bring items to the park for display. All events are sponsored by the EscalanteBoulder Chamber of Commerce and the Escalante Canyons Group for Arts and Humanities. |
