Show Panguitch Lady Cats - On Top All The Way By Mack Oetting PANGUITCH This is the year for the Lady Cats to shine. They haven't lost a game since Aug. 29 when they lost in four close ones against the Wayne Badgers. And it's been an easy time since against the rest of the league. Since that Aug. 29 loss, they have beaten Valley twice, Piute, Escalante, 2A undefeated Enterprise, Bryce Valley and Milford. The Ladys didn't lose a game in those matches! Friday was the showdown with the Badgers at Wayne, always great crowds and a fun place to play. Even though their serves weren't any better than the first time, the they trounced Wayne 25-15, 25-18, and 25-21. Wayne is still the best team they play and maybe they will meet again in Region play. Competition is a great teacher. Panguitch has some great players. Jenna and Halie the Sawyer sisters and Jordan Leech are big time spikers who are getting better with each game. They are being set by Chelsea Birch and by some great passing from Teah Caine, Shaela Eldredge, Oaklee Orton, and Courtney Nay. All of the girls are getting better, with only two seniors and two juniors, and the nine others are the Super Sophomores. The Super Sophomores are every bit what is advertised. They took part in two sophomore sopho-more tournaments, on Sept. 20 and 27. The Sept. 20 tourney was 10 teams, made up of 1 A and 2A teams. The girls didn't lose a game in the tournament, and played San Juan for the championship. Saturday's games were in Cedar City with two 1A teams and six 3A teams. Milford showed up with three juniors who played all the games, and the Panguitch girls took them out in two. The 3 A teams were Cedar, Dixie, Snow Canyon, Pine View, Hurricane, and . Carbon, and they weren't much more of a challenge than the 2A teams the lady Cats had played the week before. The Lady Cats again didn't lose a game and played Snow Canyon for the championship. 25-10 and 25-18. Snow Canyon rallied to beat Carbon in the semis, they were behind 8-13 and won 15-13 in the third game. All the girls contributed to these victories. What's so special about the Lady cats is their commitment to hard, work, many with jobs, and they are very good students, all contributing to make their team a championship team. They played at Piute on Wednesday, Oct. 1 and on Friday, Oct. 3, Escalante comes to town. The Cats have only two more home games left, so come out and watch the champions champi-ons play. Good luck Lady Cats. |
