Show USDA Grant, Loan Will Build Fire Station For Mammoth Creek PANGUITCH LAKE - The Mammoth Creek Special Service District (MCSSD) at Panguitch Lake has been awarded award-ed a grant of $60,000 and a loan of $44,000 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development to construct a fire'station. The MCSSD fire station will respond to an area that is covered cov-ered by densely populated pine trees with homes constructed inside the thick forest area. The closest fire station for this area is now located in the adjoining county. The fire station will improve the level of fire and rescue res-cue services for the community and provide added support for law enforcement, local hospitals and other emergency management manage-ment agencies. The fire station is also needed to meet Homeland Security efforts. John R. Cox, Rural Development State Director stated, "The Bush administration administra-tion is committed to improving fire and emergency response efforts in rural areas. This is an excellent use of limited federal dollars and these projects are critical to the economic and physical well being of our rural Utah residents. I am glad that the requests for- funds by these two Special Service Districts have been approved. USDA realizes that community facility needs, such as fire stations, are essential for a good quality of life and an increase in efficiency and public safety in our rural communities. We will, partner with both the New Harmony Valley and Mammoth Creek Special Service Districts for these projects." Bonnie Carrig, Rural UtilitiesCommunity Facilities Program Director for Rural Development, stated, "The people peo-ple living in these rural areas will benefit from the funding for these projects because they will receive more reliable fire and emergency response service. (See FIRE STATION on p. 5A) Fire Station From Page 4A Rural Development puts a priority prior-ity on loans that help improve health care and safety for the people in rural Utah. Our staff has worked long and hard with the leaders in these Special Service Districts to make these projects happen. I look forward to seeing these new fire stations once they are completed." The USDA Rural Development Develop-ment Community Facilities Program Economic Impact Initiative is providing funding. |
