Show Thanks To The Couple In The Shiny Red Truck! On July 12, 2003, my sister, brother-in-law and I were on a cross-country bike trip and we were starting the day's ride from . just west of Escalante. Our method of travel included using a van as support vehicle, with one of us manning it while the other two rode. Unfortunately, on this day, neither of the two sets of car keys was transferred to the van driver as the two riders rid-ers set off on a steep descent to the Escalante River and then into a very steep ascent. As the van driver with no keys, I was at a loss as to what to do. Eventually, I thought to flag down a red pickup truck and asked the couple inside if they could deliver the information to the riders.-They not only did so, but took the time to bring the keys back to me, with the suggestion sug-gestion that we get a third set. The couple in the pickup truck noted that they were residents resi-dents of Escalante. Unfortunately, I did not obtain their names, but we would like to publicly express our great appreciation to them for their act of kindness. The riders were at least five arduous miles away when contact was made and the ride back to the van would have severely limited our day's advance. I hope the owners of the shiny red truck will see this and know that their thoughtfulness has not been forgotten, . Katherine" McGlaughlin , .Germantown, Md. ', .V " '' -' |
