Show PHS Lady Cats Volleyball Team Looks At Success For The Season - Play No. 1 2A So. Sevier Tonight At PHS By Mack Oetting PANGUITCH - The Panguitch High School Lady Cats volleyball team will face . South Sevier, the number one 2A team, in Panguitch tonight and all 11 players will participate partici-pate at the Sophomore Tournament here in Panguitch on Saturday! The fall of the year is volleyball volley-ball time, a game which, when played well, is a great sport to watch. It is the ultimate team sport only as good as its weakest player Panguitch High School volley vol-ley ball Coach Troy Norris and his assistant, wife AnneMarie Norris, believe this is the year for the Panguitch girls to turn things around. Rich High School, among 1A teams, has been the champ in the last four state championship competitions and Rich's coach thinks she may have one of her best teams ever. There is a lot of evidence, however, to support the PHS claim to confidence. The Lady Cats have been playing mostly 2 A and 3 A teams. In a recent eight-team tournament at North Sevier, Panguitch, the only 1A team, did not lose a game until the final game against Snow Canyon, a 3A team. The Lady Cats have beaten such other 2A teams as North Sevier and Enterprise as well as the teams in the tournament. They have also beaten Piute and Escalante, and Escalante, in my opinion, is probably the best team they have played so far. The Moquis were one of the few teams to go three games with Panguitch. The varsity is not the only PHS team that is good; the Freshmen are outstanding. (See PHS . on page 5A) PanguitchVolleyball From Front Page There are 11 girls who play on that team, five of whom also play varsity: Chelsea Birch, Teah Caine, Shaela Eldridge, Oaklee Orton and Halle Sawyer. Chelsea and Halle are getting a lot of playing time with varsity team, with Halle getting eight kills against Piute. Both Coaches Norris have been working work-ing with these girls since the 4th grade. At a freshman tournament tourna-ment in Nephi, they did not lose a game, winning the championship champi-onship against Uintah, a 3A team which has won the tourna ment every other year. Chelsea served 15 straight in one of the games. All 1 1 girls are getting plenty of playing time and exciting to watch. Other team members include: Jennifer Perkins, Kaylin Roundy, Megan Osborn, MacKenzie Humphries, Stevie Julander, and Chelsea Tebbs. As I have traveled to different schools to watch the PHS teams play, most of the student body attends to cheer their teams on let's show our girls we support sup-port them. |
