Show By Marlene Haws 826-4859 There's a lot of job switching going on around town. It is good to know there are a few job openings now and again! Dorothy Simpson and Sandie Hitchcock sewed up their last day at the city offices last week. Dorothy will be taking Analee Knudsen's place as secretary at the elementary school and Sandie will be working for the telephone compa.ny. The information booth, on Main Street, was opened May l. Clella Woolsey or Angie Griffin will be there four hours a day and if any one else would like to volunteer to spend a few hours a week they should contact Deon Alvey. Analee (Spencer) Knudsen has been working two jobs lately. Part time here and part time in Manti for the Sevier School District. She will be living, with her husband Reed, in Mayfield next winter and traveling to Manti to work. She says she won't mind the commute as she loves seeing the LDS Manti Temple each day. Vickie Schulkoski will be the new city clerk and notice has been posted for a part time assistant secretary. Patty Henry has been working at the telephone office, but she (See Escalante News On Page 5-A) Escalante News From Page 2-A and Bill will be moving, with their family, to Bend, Ore. within the next two weeks. Patty has a job there as Office Manager-Admissions Manager-Admissions Director at a residential residen-tial school and daughter, Jessica, will be able to live at home while attending college. Velma Boulter and daughter Sondra Boulter, Lehi, have gone to Okinawa to visit Sondra's son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Leah Lund. Brent Griffin says he has never won anything in his life. But when he did it was worth the wait! He and Kathy say their yearly vacation is to go to the Associated Food Show, at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, each year. While they were there last month they won first prize, out of a thousand entries, and came home with a fancy new home entertainment center. Complete with TV, CD player, VCR, dual cassette player and speakers. Another incentive to get their new house finished! They also attended a performance by the Smothers Brothers at Abravanel Hall while in the city. Congratulations to Jay Hales whose name appeared on the Dean's list of honor students at Southern Utah University in Cedar City for winter quarter 1996-7. Overnight visitors at the home of Klyn and Marlene Haws were son Robert Haws and a friend, Kirt Phelps, Loma, Colo. The visit was short and sweet but enjoyed nonetheless. Marlene tried to entice them to stay by offering to get out the paint and brushes, but they said they had their own work to get back to! Lane and Geraldine Liston visited at the home of Geraldine's brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Linda Mecham, Las Vegas, Nev. The Listons' son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sandy, four daughters and a foster son joined them there. They all attended the annual air show at Nellis Airforce Base and report that it was spectacular, as usual. Gary and Sandy live in St. Johns, Ariz and now have legal custody of their foster son, Peter. Billy Spencer took his mother, Loreta Spencer, to St. George to have her other eye operated on. She said she was surprised at what she had. been missing, after she " had the first one done. Hopefully this one will turn out as well for her. Gene and Thais Griffin went to American Fork to see their granddaughter, grand-daughter, Nesha Griffin, perform with a "Young Strings" group. Nesha is the daughter of Gary and Sheila Griffin and plays the violin. The young group was also privileged to play some numbers with the Symphony Orchestra that was performing there. Plan to attend the final music program, for this school year, that the Escalante Elementary School will be presenting. It will be on Thursday, May 22, at 7 p.m. This will include both vocal and instrumental numbers. Frankie Alvey went to St. George for dental appointments and to take daughter Erica back for a checkup. He also took a load of ladies with him. His mother, Betty Alvey, Melba Brooks and Eva Dean Liston. Melba and Eva Dean visited with their brother Claron Griffin. They all went to the home of Ruby Griffin where they visited with Ruby and her niece, Vie Louise Marshall of Minersville. Then Marian Foote came to see Ruby and they all ended up going out to lunch together. All in all it turned out to be a nice day for all of them. Ruby had received word from Janet and Jim Spencer that they were going to Scotland, with friends, for a two-week stay. Marjie Spencer went to St. George to check on her mother, Lola Zenz. Lola had a hip replacement operation after she fell at her home and is in rehab. Hopefully she will be well enough to come home soon. Jimmy and Charlene Woolsey, daughter Brittney, Gordon and Almeda Haycock took Christopher Haycock to the LDS Missionary Training Center in Provo. Chris will be going to the Toronto, Canada West Mission and has a Telecenter assignment ' so will be at the training center for about a month. Deon Alvey, Melvin Alvey and . Leah Griffin went to Panguitch for County Forum Meetings on Wednesday last week. Lester Mendell is home for the summer from El Monte, Calif.
