Four Colorado Men Die In Fiery Plane Crash At Bullfrog Airnort TICABOO Four Colorado men died Saturday morning in a fiery plane crash just 200 feet short of the runway at the airport located just three miles from Bullfrog Marina on Lake Powell. Eyewitnesses reported that the 1976 Cessna 210 Centurion slowly passed low over the airport in a northerly direction, then reversed its direction in a tight turn and suddenly went down. The craft flipped over and exploded ex-ploded into flames. One witness reported he thought he heard the engine stop before the crash. The weather was bright and clear with only a slight wind. Representatives Represen-tatives from the Federal Aviation fcdministration have been investigating invest-igating the crash The plane was registered to Robert Stanley Sweitzer, 52, Gunnison, Colo, who is believed to have been the pilot. Others who died in the crash were Gregory Francis Reilly, 34, Gunnison, Colo.; Todd Anthony Petersen, 36, Mt. Crested Butte, Colo.; and Gregory Scott Joch, 36, Mt. Crested Butte, Colo. National Park Service Rangers and Kane County officers initially handled the crash until it became apparent that it had taken place in Garfield County. The small airport which has no tower is located on national Recreation Area public lands in Garfield County. Sheriffs Deputy Monte Luker of Escalante was dispatched dis-patched to secure the scene Saturday and most of Sunday with Search and Rescue team members mem-bers Curt Richins, Gary Anderson and Ron Cochran, all Escalante. |
