Show By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Ardis Christensen went to Oregon Ore-gon with the family of Julie Lyman, Ly-man, Boulder, to visit Arthur and Clint Lyman. They have been up there for the past few months waiting wait-ing for school to let out so Julie and the rest of the family can get up there and begin a new life on their newly acquired cattle ranch. They have chosen beautiful country to live in. We wish them all the best. The small son of Tom and Rachel Ra-chel Hart was blessed, by Tom, and given the name Jacob Thomas in LDS Sacrament meeting last week. Most of the Keith Carter family was here for the occasion. Keith and wife Linda are the grandparents. Brad Davis and his family, Cedar City, were here also. The small son of Chad and Jaimie Lyman was also blessed by his father and given the name of Klace Chad Lyman. His grandparents grandpar-ents are: Arthur and Julie Lyman and Ivan and Dorothy Lyman, Boulder, Quinn and Doneen Griffin, Leah and DeLane Griffin, Robert and Louise Liston, Neal Liston and Norman and Ardis Christensen. Not many children have 13 living grandparents! The annual Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest was held recently in Sue Bassett's fifth grade class at the Escalante Elementary School. Harriet Priska is in charge of this contest each year. The theme was "A Naval Hero". Megan Richins, daughter of Curt and Dianne Richins, won the contest. She was then invited to attend a meeting hosted by the Bald Eagle Chapter of the DAR in Cedar City and was presented an honorable honor-able mention certificate from the State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Congratulations, Con-gratulations, Megan! Rolain Alvey recently returned from a trip to parts of Arizona. She went with Max King and Ann Reynolds of Panguitch. They made a loop around through Arizona visiting vis-iting in the Holbrook area, two or . three nights in Phoenix and came back by way of Jerome, Ariz. , Congratulations to Norman and Ardis Christensen who will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary an-niversary this week with their fam-ily. fam-ily. Congratulations also to Garl and Pat Cottam who will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on Apr. 21. Don and Ethel Haws brought their two grandsons, Robert, and Wesley from Killeen, Tex., to spend their spring break from school. They were here for a week. Don will be coming back soon to plant his garden, if it ever warms up! Deon Alvey had meetings in St. George for three days. She left Arnold to babysit the grandkids, Jessica Whitefield and Michael Dube, Las Vegas, Nev. The kids said they had fun, but I haven't heard any comments from Arnold so he must have gotten along alright al-right with them! They will take them home over the weekend. Donnie and Sonjia Barney are the parents of a new baby girl, Haylee Don. Grandparents are Gerald Ger-ald and Carol Barney and Leland and Donna Marshall of Panguitch. Congratulations to them! Vergean and Carolyn Porter met their son and daughter-in-law, Sloan (See ESCALANTE on page 4-A) Escalante News From page 2-A and Vera Lynn Porter and family, of Midway, in Green River. Then, they all went on a trip to Mesa Verde and Durango, Colo., for Easter. They rode the train to Sil-verton Sil-verton and got snowed on a little before they got to Mesa Verde, but all in all it turned out to be a fun trip for them. Lane and Geraldine Liston, and Arnold and Deon Alvey went to Las Vegas, Nev., for the wedding of Brett and Bridgette Mecham. Brett is the son of Ronald and Linda Mecham. The Alveys also took their grandchildren, Michael Dube and Jessica Whitefield home after they had spent the week here for spring break. Visiting here, also for spring break, were Gary and Sandy Liston and family, St. Johns, Ariz. They were at the home of Gary's parents, Lane and Geraldine Liston. Emilee Liston checked out some housing in Cedar City where she will be attending school soon. Lee and Kathleen Williams' daughter, Joleen, came from California Cali-fornia and drove them ,to Moscow, Ida., where they attended the funeral of Kathleen's sister, Elsie Sasser. Our condolences to them. Hyrum and Mary Ellen Coleman Cole-man attended the Manti LDS Temple Tem-ple with their daughter and son-in-law Valerie and Michael Davies of Aurora. Also attending with them were Donna Rae Barker, Monroe; Louis and Irene Brown, Lindon; Lynn and Garna Mclnelly, Beaver and the Davies' daughter Jennifer, who will be married later on this month in the Mt. Timpanogas LDS Temple. Max and Cleva Swindle, Payson, met them afterward for dinner. Jon and Jillyn Sorensen and family, Salina, spent the Easter weekend at the home of Klyn and Marlene Haws. Then, on Tuesday, the Haws' and Brent and Patrice Cottam and family went to Salina. Jon was baptized a member of the LDS Church that evening by Brent Cottam. Even with the beginning of winter weather, spring must be right around the corner. The snowbirds snow-birds are beginning to come home to roost. EIRay Nixon is here to spend some time at his home. Bud and Monty Revord are home from Mesa, Ariz., and Florida. Flor-ida. They sold their place in Mesa and will be commuting between Michigan, Florida and here for a while. That's quite a commute, but we're glad they still like to divide their time between their children and us. Clem Griffin had some of his children here for the Easter weekend. week-end. Darrell and Dana Alvey and family fam-ily came from Cedar City and joined with Rolain Alvey, Don and Gwen Porter, Fay Lyman and Tyler and Lisa Lyman and their families for Easter. They even braved the wind and weather on Saturday and went to Twenty Mile, on the desert, to roll Easter eggs. Visiting Betty R. Alvey were daughters, Irene and Greg Tait and family, South Jordan, and Linda Stokes and daughter, Jenny, of Riverton. They also visited Frank and Angie Alvey. Our condolences to the family of Vonda Pollock whose son, Neal, passed away and was buried here (See ESCALANTE on page 5-A) 4.- Escalante News From page 4-A last Tuesday. This is the loss of a second son for Vonda just within months of each other. Sylvia Luker attended the travel council meeting at Ruby's Inn last week and also took the opportunity to visit her sisters Ethel LeFevre and Betty Lou Wintch, Tropic and Dorothy Leavitt, Cannonville. Hal Shurtz's name was left off the list who attended the Escalante Reunion in St. George. He and Harold Griffin will be hosting that event next year. Most of Hal's kids have come to visit him lately, he enjoyed that. He is keeping busy in St. George. He has even bought himself an electric organ and is taking lessons so he can play it better. More power to you, Hal! The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Pio-neers held their monthly dinner meeting at the Senior Citizen center on Thursday night. New Captain, Anne Spencer, conducted. Lana Christian gave a history on her great-great-grandmother and Fay Alvey gave the lesson on Wayne County. There were 20 members in attendance. There are going to be some very important public meetings in the near future for Escalante citizens. It's time to perk up folks and provide pro-vide some input into these issues. There will be public hearings on planning and zoning, etc., and if you want to make a difference it's time you came out and voiced your opinion. These meetings are posted at the post office, stores, etc. So TAKE rfbtice and READ the notices. no-tices. Right now is a critical time when many changes are being made and we need to be heard! |
