Show r- ' r- m By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Gene and Thais Griffin spent some time at their home in Mesa, Ariz, recently. While they were there, they visited Lynn and Mildred Gates and Gene played All-Star pool with the men in that area. Apparently he was quite a crowd pleaser. He laughed and joked with the onlookers and ended up winning the tournament. Lynn said "These city boys should know better that to mess with the country boys!" Our condolences to Howard Miller who recently lost his father. fa-ther. Arnold and Deon Alvey spent Thanksgiving in Las Vegas, Nev. with their children: Dave and Raylene Whitefield, Andy and Denise Dube and Brad and Janeen Duncan of Loa also joined them there. Lane and Geraldine Liston spent the holiday with the family of Ron and Linda Mecham in Las Vegas. Klyn and Marlene Haws and Elisa Cottam went to the home of Jon and Jillyn Sorensen, Salina, for turkey dinner and shopping. Doyle and Thelma Cottam had their entire family together for Thanksgiving, with the exception of grandson Garrett Cottam who is on an LDS Mission in Africa. Also joining them were Jerry and Geneal Chatterton, Logan, and Vernon Spencer. Pratt and Areola Gates had their daughters and families together. to-gether. Russell and Carol Soren-son, Soren-son, St. George and Jim and Margo Smith. Jim and Rae Smith also came from Henrieville to spend the afternoon with them. Barry and Celeste Bernards had their Christmas lights all on, at the top of Main street, on Friday Fri-day night. And the Steve Gessigs had their place all lit up, over in the North Forty. Lots of shopping going on these days! I saw a few people in Richfield the day I was there including in-cluding Ed and Phyllis Porter Jar-rett, Jar-rett, who live in Kingston now. Debbie Allen, also of Kingston, was there, and guess what - she says her husband, Greg, is coaching coach-ing at Piute High School again this year. Greg was our coach here in Escalante 20 years ago! Also saw Alvin Cowles and Debbie Deb-bie Spencer. Some of our ladies got so ex- cited about shopping they left town at 3 a.m. to get in on the sales in Cedar City. Donnie Randall, Ran-dall, Nancy Porter, Cecil Dawn Porter, Susann McLemore and Nicole Spencer said it was pretty early to get going, but they really had a fun day. Rodney and Golda Cottam had most of their family here for Thanksgiving: Bryce and Kolleen Cottam, Hiko, Nev.; Tawnya Spencer, Cedar City; Susan and Terry Kennedy, Upton, Wyo.; Boyd and LaNell Cottam, Enoch, who also shared their time with Cecil and Carrie Griffin; Boyd's children Rachel Cottam ' and (See ESCALANTE on page 4-A) Escalante News From page 2-A friend, Charles Brown, and Shawn Cottam and friend, Jill Butter-field, Butter-field, all of Heber City and Dan and Glenna Cottam, who live here. Tony and Karen Cottam live here now too, but they went to Henrieville to have dinner with Karen's family. Elaine Cottam spent the day in Cedar City with friends. Cal and Martha Schow had their daughters and families here Melanie and Dale Robins, Scipio; Stephanie and Chad Homer, West Valley City; and granddaughter Nicole and Allen Cavaliere, Henderson, Nev. They also visited vis-ited with their grandmother, Nellie Nel-lie Bailey. . Visiting at the homes of Betty R. Alvey and Frank and Angie Alvey were: Jay and Linda Stokes, Riverton and Johnny and Stacie Alvey, Palmdale, Calif.. Clorene Vidrine had grandchildren grand-children from Mountain Green for a couple of days: Jennifer, Esther and Nathan Vidrine, who are children of Greg Vidrine. Tom Jackson was in Colorado for Thanksgiving so wife Marilyn and her two children, Janae and Clint, went there to join him Brent Cottam was busy pulling cars up over the Blues one evening even-ing last week. Four inches of snow.. .just enough to make it slick! Our condolences to the families fami-lies of Janis Gledhill and Debbie Lyman, who lost their mother, Betty Hill. They went to Texas for funeral services. Condolences also to the families fami-lies of Arlis Brooks who passed away Dec. 1. Arlis had been taken by life-flight to Salt Lake City, where he passed away the following day. South Central Utah Telephone Board members went to St. George for meetings last week. Those who went from here were: Dan and Lois Spencer, Alan Tor-gersen, Tor-gersen, Marc McLemore, Gerald-ine Gerald-ine Liston and Norman and Ardis Christensen. Jay and Laura Hales, and their cute twin boys, came from Cedar City on the weekend to visit Sandra San-dra Porter. The twins also have two other grandparents here who probably help to spoil them a little, lit-tle, Que and Cecil Dawn Porter. Warren and Kathleen Woolsey came from Cedar City to get Thelma Marsh, then went on a trip to Branson, Mo. Jerry and Sherree Roundy took another group to Branson. Included In-cluded in that group were Dudley and Hazel Spencer, Betty R. Alvey and Ruby Griffin. Sounds like fun to me! Juanita Patton had an unfortunate unfortu-nate accident last Saturday. As . she was getting something out of the window at Griffin's Store, she lost her balance a fell through the window. Hope your wounds heal quickly, Juanita. Emily Clove and Brent Thompson were the speakers in the Escalante LDS 1st Ward Sacrament Sac-rament Meeting last Sunday. Brent is the son of our former postmaster, Dean Thompson and wife Ruth, who now live in Arizona. |
