Show Panguitch City Officials Meet PANGUITCH Members of the Panguitch City Council met Nov. 10. Present were Mayor Pro Tern Craig Twitchell, City Manager Man-ager Allen K. Henrie, City Recorder Cindy Johnson and Council Members Mem-bers Dennis Orton, Mack Oetting, Janet Oldham, Jolene Smith and Attorney Wallace Lee. The council evaluated, then accepted, two Justice Court fines and Police Department reports. They approved sending Cindy Johnson to a minute-taking training course in Cedar City. Southwest Center Introduction of Teen Court Shelly Benson, Lindsey Brem-ner, Brem-ner, Courtney Coffman, Sara Marker Mar-ker and Nicholas Mack explained a tobacco grant received by the Southwest Center. The $500 grant was to be used for verifying that tobacco and alcohol sales are being properly carried out and that none are being sold to juveniles. Bremner explained the operations opera-tions of the Youth Court. Advisors Advi-sors are Stan Foy and Sheryl Henrie and the juvenile judge. They explained ex-plained the success of similar courts in other cities and said they had attended a mock youth court in Cedar City, a good learning experience. exper-ience. Youth court presents the possibility for young offenders to avoid offenses appearing permanently perman-ently on their records. Their goal is to help the youth with less serious offenses. Anyone, including parents, par-ents, can refer a juvenile to the court for any offense, including problems in the home, etc. Jeff Hunter - Additional Lots at the Industrial Park The council motioned unanimously unani-mously to grant Jeff Hunter the two frontage lots adjoining those he had in return for his release of four back lots back to the city. The time limit on placement of a fence will moved to Spring. Fire Inspector Mack Oetting told the council that Justin Hatch had agreed to attend Fire Inspecting school. The council had earlier agreed to send a candidate. Oetting agreed to follow through. Museum Bid Robert Driedonks Driedonks had submitted bids on damages caused by the leaking roof; he had not paid rent to date. City Manager Henrie recommended the council require him to make up unpaid rent. The council would pay damages only as work is completed. Lee was asked to check on the city's liability under its insurance policy. The city does not have insurance on the building. The council agreed to table the item for a future meeting Liquor Permit Request Grandma Tina's The council approved Mayor Pro Tern Craig Twitchell's signing of a Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Local Consent Form after Tina Bean of Grandma Tina's requested a liquor permit, stating that most of her clientele are Europeans who prefer liquor with their meals. Treasurer Training Shirley Chidester had contacted Caselle regarding a one-day training for the treasurer position at $600 a day. Henrie suggested contacting Camille Moore to see if she would be willing to do the training for one-half the amount noting that Moore is very knowledgeable about the program. The council voted to hire Moore, not to exceed $300. Baseball Complex A few trees were planted at the baseball field, with work halted (See PANGUTTCH on page 5-A) PANGUITCH From Front Page because of cold weather and due to resume in the Spring. New Fire Station The roof was going on, and a bid was expected for the second floor to see if it would be feasible to complete it with the current work. Natural Gas Tempest Company had pulled all of their equipment out and will be returning in the Spring to resolve some problems. Other - Open to Council Local businessman Harshad Desai had earlier sent a letter to the mayor and city council outlining various problems. He discussed at great length with the council the many problems he had been having with some juveniles in town. Oldham informed Desai that she had discussed his letter with the mayor. Mayor Torgerson and Kevin Moore (Panguitch City Police) have agreed to meet with Desai to discuss the matters of concern in his letter. Desai agreed to meet with them at a later date. Jim Patterson Trees Attorney Lee will send a letter to Patterson seeking a response regarding dead trees along Patterson's property. If no response re-sponse is forthcoming from Patterson, Pat-terson, Lee will pursue a court order to remove them for safety reasons. Horse Trailers On City Rights-of-Way Several complaints had been received on a horse trailer parked at 100 North by the old show house. It was believed to be owned by Chris Gilbert. Similar complaints had been received on other trailers and vehicles at 200 South 50 East at the Art Partridge and Paul Partridge Par-tridge homes. Lee will write all parties a letter explaining the city's nuisance ordinance and doing business bus-iness on the city's rights-of-way. -Burdell Henrie A new property description was needed for the Burdell Henrie property pro-perty and donation letters needed to be done. Garfield County News It was expressed that the EMT's were extremely grateful to the Garfield County News for efforts in raising funds for the annual Salt Lake City conference. Letter of Appreciation Pat Dix had written a letter of appreciation to Jason Miller for a job well done. He expressed thanks to all city employees for .all their, efforts in making Panguitch a great, place to live. Public Safety Facility A meeting was scheduled for Nov. 16 with the BLM, the county and the city to discuss the location of the public safety facility. , Gravel Permission was granted to Craig Twitchell to place gravel in front of his home. Current Bills There was a question about why the power bill at the concession park showed a use of power since it had not been used since summer. |
