Show Tropk -Hcarjs By Lynn Munson 679-8627 It was a very special LDS Sacrament Sac-rament meeting Sunday with speakers speak-ers Escalante Stake Patriarch Michael Mich-ael Clarke and wife Erma who are leaving in June for an LDS mission mis-sion to Baton Rouge, La. The Young Men and Women sang two songs. Shanon Pollock, son of Vance and Jeanene Pollock, received two awards, "On My Honor" and "Duty to God." The Pahreah Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers met to honor Erma Clarke who had served as secretary since the camp was organized 14 years ago. Vice Captain Cap-tain Karen Barker conducted the meeting. Jeannie Spencer related a Pioneer Christmas story and LaVera Moss presented the lesson on "Pioneer Women Musicians." Grace Sandberg, who had helped to organize the camp and served as first captain, spoke. She, Lucille Bridges and Vera oldham, all of Panguitch, six regular members and two other visitors all enjoyed a pot luck lunch. Residents all over the county were saddened at the death of Harvey Mecham, son of Stan and Nellie Rae Mecham and the late Koye Mecham. His funeral services, held here on Saturday, drew one of the largest groups ever of family members and friends. Harvey was dearly loved by everyone who knew him and he will be sorely missed. The LDS Adult Family Home Evening Group met Tuesday night at Minnie Nielson's home. She and Lynn Munson were hostesses for the evening with six members present. All of Dixie Shakespear's family fam-ily (except Vard and his family who live in New Zealand) were here to help Dixie celebrate her birthday with a dinner at Rubys Inn. Helping Help-ing to celebrate were Betty Lou Hepworth, Panguitch; Rett and Kristine Shakespear and Danny and Vickie Shakespear, all Cedar City; Arvon Button, Kanab; Christy and Jeff Gardner, New Harmony; Chad Shakespear, Tropic; and Ed and Camille Shakespear and their two sons of Escalante. Later in the week Dixie went to Salt lake City with Danny and Vickie. Dixie stayed with her brother Heber Hall and saw the beautiful lights on Temple Square. The next day she attended the Salt Lake LDS Temple wedding of grandson Scott Hall Shakespear to Rebekah Tanner of Oak City. Dixie and family attended a wedding dinner and, later, a reception in Oak City. Fred and Donna Fagergren were in New Orleans recently where Fred attended meetings for the National Park Service. Crystal Mortensen had a baby boy on Tuesday in Cedar City. Husband Shawn was in Phoenix, but made it to the hospital in time for the birth of their son. He , weighed in at five pounds eight ounces and measured 18 and one-half one-half inches. He is named Clay Lyle Mortensen for his grandfather. Proud grandparents are Pete and Keela Mangum and Lyle and Nancy Mortensen. LaMar and Cheri Feltner are also proud grandparents to a new ' grandson Jarren Tracy Feltner, born Dec. 12 to Tracy and Shawna Feltner in Cedar City. Also re- ; cently in Cedar City Tanya and Jar-rett Jar-rett Taylor had a son, Riley Jarrett ; Taylor, and Tyler and Kristin Feltner had a son, Jayden Bert Feltner. LaMar and Cheri now , have three baby grandsons to visit when they go to Cedar City. Sara Littlefield's children JaNell Cook and Jim Littlefield were here earlier in the week. They decided Sara needed more care, so Sara is now staying at the Garfield Memorial Memo-rial Long Term Care Center in Panguitch. Her friends and neighbors neigh-bors will miss her. 1 Bob Syrett is a patient at Garfield Gar-field Memorial Hospital. We hope a quick recovery will mean a trip home to his family for the holidays. holi-days. Another sad note was the passing of Tropic resident Rachel Jollev Ahlstrom in Panguitch on Friday, Dec. 17. She was a dear friend to many here and will certainly be missed. Her funeral services were held here on Wednesday. Ethel LeFevre was in Las Vegas visiting her children there. LaMar left Sunday afternoon to pick her up so they will be home for the holidays. holi-days. The LDS Primary Christmas Eve party will be held at Bryce Valley High School on Friday. The LDS Young Men and Women went caroling through town on Sunday evening. They sounded wonderful and, despite the cold and the wind, seemed to be having a great time. Sunday's LDS Sacrament meeting meet-ing was presented by the ward choir. Speaker was Rita Dearden. Relased as temple preparation leaders were Mike and Melissa Castagnetto with Shaine and Anne Anderson sustained in their place. . ... . Marie Barton was released as scout troop coordinator . Also sustained were Betty Wintch, gospel essentials essen-tials teacher and Lenny Pollock, single adult coordinator.
