Show Off-Highway Vehicle i Regions Are Changed Snowmobile operators, ages 8 through 15, may now reside in a new Off-Highway Vehicle training region, which will change the re gion office they can receive information infor-mation from about operator certification certifi-cation in the state's "Know Before You Go!" safety training program. A realignment of the management regions of the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation resulted in the training regions being changed. The Division of Parks and Recreation is the agency in charge of Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) education for the state. This is the first year instruction will be available for snowmobilers in the "Know Before You Go!" training program. "Know Before You Go!" was initiated in 1988 to teach safe OHV riding habits to riders, ages 8 through 15. Operators must pass a written test and a rider's rid-er's course to receive certification. Workbooks designed to prepare operators op-erators for the tests are available free of charge at the Salt Lake Main Office, 1636 W. North Temple, Salt Lake City, the three region offices, and at each state park. A snowmobiler needs to score a 70-percent or better on the written test to qualify for an OHV training and safety course with a state OHV instructor. The instructor will spend time with the student, explaining ex-plaining the safety and operating features of their snowmobile. After the training seminar the operator will receive their operator certification. certifica-tion. The Division of Parks and Recreation reminds OHV users the certification law will be strictly enforced this winter and riders under 16 years of age without certification certifica-tion will be issued a citation. Snowmobiles, motorcycles and all-terrain all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are classified classi-fied as Off-Highway Vehicles.
