But then there are lots of corners in the world! LDS Ward memberships for Jack, . Gaya and son John Greenhalgh were read in LDS Sacrament meeting on Sunday. Douglas Shakespear ot Hurricane was in town sprucing up his yard. Stonnie and Francine Pollock visited at the Stan Mechams and Lonnie Pollocks'. Larry Adair and Jack North of St. George visited Larry's mother Ella Adair. Vemal Mecham, his wife Linda and daughter Pearl of Heber City, spent two nights at his mother Margaret L. Mecham 's home. They were on their way to Arizona to attend Linda's grandmother's funeral. fun-eral. Margaret reported that her granddaughter grand-daughter Margaret Zclunick, her husband Jeff, and three little girls came down from West Valley City on Tuesday intending to spend a week. On Thursday, they visited Zion National Park. After supper that evening daughter Nancy called to report the Zclunick's home had been broken in to. Disappointed and upset the family returned home but were grateful to find that not much damage was done. Sherel Clark and Amber Simons gave a wedding shower for their sister sis-ter Dianna Leslie at the Tropic LDS Ward Relief Society room. The Raymond Brinkerhoffs enjoyed en-joyed visits from all of their children. chil-dren. Son-in-law Derrick Clark was down for the weekend as well. Tropic Town Clean-up was held on Saturday. Despite chilly weather and windy conditions there were those who braved the elements and set about painting the Scout House and the bowery. Thank you to all who helped with food and equipment and in the organizing and giving of their time to a great cause; the beautification of our little lit-tle town. Thanks also to everyone who helped with the news this week. Also, a big thank you to Betty Wintch who always takes the time to drop me a note and to tell me thanks for my efforts and to LaMar LeFevre; thanks for your phone call and appreciation. You made my day! Hunter McLain Mecham received his name and blessing in the LDS Tropic Ward chapel on May 14. He is the son of McLain and Merrilee Mecham. Merrilee's brother, Tyce Palmer and wife Paula of Cedar City were here for the occasion. Her close friend, Janalee (formerly of Wayne County) and husband David Barlow of Salt Lake City were here as well. Ora Brinkerhoff traveled with Lael Chynoweth of Henrieville to Escalante to attend the graduation of their granddaughter Tionna from the Head Start Program. The ceremony was held at the community center. Tionna is a daughter of Link and Donna Chynoweth of Escalante. For those readers who frequently pass through on Hwy. 12 in Bryce Valley, Tionna is that cute little white-headed girl seen playing on the swing set in Ora's flower garden. Bryce Valley seniors held their Senior Banquet at Bryce Pioneer Village on Thursday night. Good food, good company. . .what more could you ask for? A diploma and full paid scholarship, perhaps? Krisette Shakespear drove ner grandmother, Wanda Shakespear to Kanab for a doctors appointment. They visited Wanda's sister Rhoana, husband Duncan Sindley and daughter Ina Frost of Kanab. Marve and Jerrie Seiler of Salt Lake City were in town recently visiting their son Jean and daughter Ellen Pederson and families. Former resident Shawn Bybee, son of Clive and Thelma Bybee, has been accepted into pharmaceutical school in Idaho. Shawn will graduate from Southern Utah University in June. He and his wife Karen will then move to Pocatello, Ida. Clive and Thelma spent the weekend in St. George. Doctors appointments were on the agenda but the highlight of the trip was visiting with their children and families, Thelma reported. Marion Allen and her famiiy of Orem were here visiting with her parents, Larvin and Eva Pollock. Her folks drove her as far as Delta where they stayed with the Pollock's son Bill and his wife Stacey. They attended the seminary graduation which including seeing granddaughter Crista graduate. Bill, who was the former seminary teacher at Bryce Valley High School is the principal in charge of the LDS church program in Delta. Eva's sister, Velma Wozab of Salt Lake City also visited with the Pollocks. Velma's daughter, Vickie and husband Ed McPheeters of Centerville and their four daughters visited as well. Tawnie Allen of Orem, daughter of former residents Joe and Rhoda Allen visited with her aunt Ruth Baugh and family and with the Larvin Pollock family. Joe was also a former seminary teacher at Bryce Valley. He and Rhoda are presently serving an LDS mission in Spain. Stephen Simons, who graduates from Southern Utah University on June 3, has been accepted into the masters program in the field of accounting. He will return to SUU in the fall. He is married to the former Amber Brinkerhoff and is the son of Escalante residents Gerald and Nancy Simons. For those who know the Simons family, it is interesting to note that their son Brian has returned from serving an LDS mission in Canada. The family now resides in Pleasant Grove. Niki Niemann of Cedar City was in town last weekend. ' She is attending Southern Utah University and recently spent a week at the north rim of the Grand Canyon training for summer employment Bill and Carol Niemann of Las Vegas have been in town. Carol is taking care of business and Bill has two weeks of teaching school, then will return to Tropic for the summer. Elder Jared Childs, area missionary for the LDS church and recently residing in Cannonville has been transferred to Vernal. The children of Deward and Re Von Smith honored their parents with a surprise open house to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary anni-versary and Deward's 70th birthday on May 21 in Hawthorne, Nev. Re Von grew up in Tropic and Deward in Henrieville and were delighted to see relatives and old friends. |
