Show Wv--sssr -sot -star sr . -sr sssi ! mm ! m list ss By Mamie Talbot A brisk north wind brought a cold wave through. Folks appreciate appreci-ate the kindness of cub scouts and other friends who delivered loads of sawmill wood to those who cannot haul their own. In this cold weather such service is real service indeed! In this appropriate season two local families are beaming with joy. Don and Edna Clarke are excited ex-cited at the birth of a baby boy 7 lbs. 11 oz., born to Michael and Raleen Jones Connell up north. Edna says Mike is on cloud nine so that must make her at least on cloud 12, after waiting eight and one-half years for their first grandchild. grand-child. He will be named John Linden Lin-den in honor of his grandfathers. Sheldon and Lucile Proctor are also smiling at the birth of their first grandson, born to Paul and Patrice Proctor Morris in Cedar City. The many young folks spreading spread-ing cheer through their caroling, sure adds to the spirit of Christmas, as do the lighted homes twinkling on these cold nights. Many thanks to you all. A delightful LDS Ward party based on the theme "Return to Bethlehem" was held last Tuesday in the Panguitch LDS Stake Center. Cen-ter. Folks were encouraged to dress in the style of the time of Jesus' birth. Each family brought a blanket blan-ket to sit on and a basket to carry the food that was served. New baked bread, stew or gruel, nuts, fruits. A near catastrophe occurred as the front legs of a table holding the large kettles of stew collapsed. Luckily they slid slowly to the bottom bot-tom as a wise man standing near helped catch them and move them to safety. After eating, the families stretched out in comfort to watch the depiction of the birth of Christ. Bands of tinsel-haloed little angels sang the good news, even angels with violins helped. The background back-ground of the scene was an excellent excel-lent painting by local artists Lucille Lu-cille Bridges and Neucile Yardley. To anyone looking over the campground, camp-ground, it was a very natural sight. Even the kids were fascinated with such a setting. Only a few moms had to dash after the little ones now and then. Kay Hatch was in charge of the production but was unable to be there. Husband Tom took Kay to Salt Lake City the next morning to seek help for treatment for her back. In spite of her pain, she has hoped to put off surgery until after the holidays. Roberta Stowell Fowler and son Mark brought Mark's twin brother Matt to Provo to enter the LDS Missionary Training Center and, since home was only three hours south of Provo, came on down to spend an hour with Grandma Merle r Stowell, before starting off on the long trip back to Oregon. Panguitchite Afton Church King was here from Richfield to eat dinner with her senior citizen friends. It was good to see her. A new helper-outer with meal deliveries deliver-ies at the Center is Mary Lee Robinson. She came from Roosevelt Roo-sevelt to be close to friends; the Ledbetter family. She lives in the Walt Daly house. Welcome Mary Lee. The Del Hulet family presented the program in last week's Panguitch Pan-guitch LDS Third Ward meeting. Del's parents were here to enjoy the performance of talks and musical numbers. In the Panguitch LDS First Ward, Anthony Soils and Curt Crofts were ordained teachers in the Aaronic Priesthood. Mark Nielson was called to be single adult coordinator. co-ordinator. Nathan Osbom and Skip Houston were youth speakers. Newly called adult leaders Martin Nay, Frank Houston, Norman Davis and Terry Henrie all gave interesting in-teresting talks. The Charles Hepworths and the Kenny and Am Hepworth family went north for before Christmas visits. Garn Webb and LaVera En-glestead En-glestead were married on Saturday. We wish you happiness folks. The Dirk Pendletons came for a visit with his mother Blanche Pendleton as they can't come during the holidays. Clara Worthen is recovering from a stroke. Jim and Barbara Duckett left their sons with grandparents Clark and Gwen Frandsen while they went on vacation farther south. We welcome the Mangums of Southwest Cable Vision to town. Their daughter Mauritta Webster has just moved into the former Bill Proctor home. The Art Crosbys and Harold Sevys went to Phoenix to deliver Christmas gifts in person to their kids. The Panguitch LDS Second Ward program featured the Primary children, the ward choir and speakers speak-ers Earl Roe, Ann Famsworth and Brian Bremmer. The four-ward LDS Christmas Sacrament meeting program was presented Sunday, Dec. 22 at 4 p.m. and included all the choirs. We send our love to all with connections to Panguitch both near and far. Hope you enjoy hearing from home. Be happy. |
