UDOT employees Joe Lee, Merle Daniels and Chris Peterson do survey. Forest Service Mulls Red Canyon Center A decision notice has been approved ap-proved by Forest Supervisor Hugh C. Thompson, regarding an environmental envi-ronmental assessment for the proposed pro-posed temporary visitor center in Red Canyon on the Power Ranger District, Dixie National Forest. Out of six alternatives considered, consid-ered, the proposed action adopts an alternative to locate the temporary visitor center within Red Canyon and north of Utah State Highway 12. The temporary facility will consist of a trailer house type building, parking, restrooms, improvement im-provement to meet health and safety requirements, and facilities necessary to meet the objectives of a quality informationinterpretive services program. The environmental assessment prepared for this project may be reviewed re-viewed at the Dixie National Forest supervisor's office in Cedar City or the Powell Ranger District office in Panguitch, Carl Guillctte, Powell District ranger, advises that this is the first step in providing an informationinterpretive informa-tioninterpretive services program in Red Canyon. He said, "In addition addi-tion to providing public information, informa-tion, the Forest Service would like to tell it's story of multiple use management on national forest system lands. This includes the management of recreation, wildlife, range, timber, minerals and watershed, water-shed, and their importance as our nation's natural resources." Guillette further advised that the Forest Service, in cooperation with the Dixie Interpretive Association, is looking for volunteers to staff the visitor center this summer. He said, "We are looking for volunteers who are really interested in providing a public service and can provide information about southern Utah." Plans are to proceed with development devel-opment of the temporary visitor center with an opening date of June 1989. To date a number of businesses busi-nesses and individuals have volunteered volun-teered time and materials to proceed with the project. |
