Show .' -1 '? 'WJF. j Escalante Health Fair Set Tuesday ESC AL ANTE - The second annual Escalante Health Fair is slated for Tuesday, April 23 at the Escalante Community Center. Sponsored by the PTA, the health fair is free to the public for both the morning session (10 a.m. until noon) and afternoon session (1 until 4 p.m.). A variety of health screening activities are planned. Participants may have their vision, hearing and blood presure checked. Their height, weight, frame size and nutritional status will also be evaluated. They will be able to discover more about their personal health and obtain information regarding common child and adult health problems from the professional staff at Garfield Memorial Hospital who will conduct the health fair. Representatives of the Five County Health and Social Services. Southwest Mental Health, the American Cancer Society, local Home Health Agency, and Escalante Emergency Medical Technicians have all prepared special presentations for the health fair. A local expert will provide information about wilderness survival. Hospital personnel will also provide some free blood testing. More extensive testing is available at a reduced price. An 18-channel blood chemistry survey, costing only $10, requires a 12-hour fast. It screens for diabetes, heart, liver or kidney problems. Those attending the health fair who have recently experienced weakness, aching or uusual tiredness may want to take advantage of the special test. Steve Marshall, registered pharmacist at Panguitch Drug, will be available at the fair to answer medication related questions. Participants should take their medications to the fair so that Marshall can discuss with them information about possible side effects, adverse reactions or drug interactions.
