Show Local School Operations Projected at $2,905,953 Education received top priority in the allocation of state funds for next year by the 1985 Utah Legislature. According to an analysis prepared by Utah Foundation, the private research organization, educational spending authorized for 1985-86 totals $1,260,845,000. This sum is $122. million or 10.7 percent more than was authorized for 1984-85, and is nearly $239 million or 23.4 percent greater than the total that was expended foreducation in 1983-84.v Operating funds In the Garfield School District will total $2,905,953 in the 1985-86 school year, according to the report. This sum is $307,964 or 11.9 percent more than the amount available during the current (1984-85) school year. It is expected that Tim Feltner 1,964 weighted pupil units will be allotted to the Garfield School District next year, and this represents an increase of, 86 units from the number allocated this year. Garfield School District will be guaranteed a basic school program of $1,180 per weighted pupil unit plus amounts for retirement, Social Security, transportation, career-addertribnilnnsind a variety)!:' "other special programs. With all of these special allowances, it is expected that the district will receive about $1,480 for each weighted pupil unit in 1985-86. Foundation analysts point out that the rather generous treatment of Linda Carr education this year was made possible by the strong economic recovery experience in the state and by the tax hikes imposed last year. Utah concluded the 1983-84 fiscal year with a surplus of $81.7 'million and (he Foundation indicates that the ending balance on June 30, 1985 probably would have been, even larger were it, not for some large' special supplemental appropriations .made from this sur. Expenditures for higher education during the coming year will total $327 million, or about $27.6 million (9.2 percent) more than the amount provided in 1934-85. In addition to these regular ap-proprations for 1985-86, the 1985 Legislature also authorized expenditures of $4.4 million for public education and $9.3 million for higher education from surplus and other funds to supplement the appropriations made for the 1984-85 fiscal year. |
