Show I Crane prepares to raise Loffland Brothers drill tower which will reach a height of over 172 feet when fully in place. The Tulsa, Okla. company is drilling for Atlantic Richfield Company. Oil Drillers Back in County Loffland Brothers oil well drilling company from Tulsa, Okla. has once again come into Garfield County to drill for Atlantic Richfield. Loffland has previously drilled near Panguitch, on Boulder Mountain, the Griffin Top and i.i several other areas of the county. The new well drilling site is located off Kanab Creek Road approximately 12 miles south of Utah Highway 12 on Tropic Reservoir Road. Junior Wood, tool pusher from Farmington, who has drilled in Garfield County several times before said, "The drilling set-up is worth more than $6 million." The drill tower itself is over 170 feet high and is located on a mountain side about 500 feet above the valley floor. Wood says, "We just barely have enough room on top; it'll be a squeeze." There will be ARCO represen-' titiyes on the drill site from time to time whore Loffland employees will number 22. The work Is divided into four shifts, three working eight hours on and 16 off, and one crew at home. The tool pushers (rig Mipetln-tendents) work a week on and a week off. Wood said that the drilling should be completed in three months but as yet he did not know the depth they were trying to attain. He said the total setup time would be four to five days. A water truck runs from Panguitch to the Drill site several times a day since the drilling will use a lot of cooling mud and requires a great deal of water. Wood asks that sightseers stay out of the rig area since it is crowded and dangerous. A good view of the area can be obtained at the junction of Tropic Reservoir Road and Kanab Creek Road without driving closer to the site. |
