Show Library Open House Scheduled on Friday Panguitch Mayor Wallace Lee and city council members have invited all Garfield County residents to an open house Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Panguitch City Library to inspect the library's new facelifting. Built in 1908 on a Carnegie grant, the 72 year old Panguitch landmark at 75 East Center is enjoying some internal changes with a modern lowered ceiling, handsome paneling, fresh paint, and new draperies. The west side of the library claims a particularly outstanding collection of older books while the east side sports up-to-date literature of all types, also serving as headquarters for the popular bookmobile. Librarian Winona Sevy and bookmobile clerk Gwen Frandsen serve patrons from 2 until 5:30 p.m. each weekday. Mrs. Sevy has been employed as librarian for the city for the past 10 years and Mrs. Frandsen is employed by the state to assist with the state system in which the library participates. Mrs. Sevy points out that more adults are using the library each day with total circulation last year over 80,000 books. Mrs. Frandsen noted that television seems not to be making such an impact on childrens' free time since so many seem to be reading more than ever. Librarian Ray Paxman, familiar to residents in Beaver, Piute, and Kane counties as well as Garfield County, drives the bookmobile more than 1,800 miles each month to service residents in smaller towns with the State's finest selection of books. |
