Show Moqui Fans Still Jubilant Over Team's Season Showing ESCALANTE Even though the basketball season for high school is over, fans of the Escalante Moquis are still shouting praises for their team, which gave their school the top spot in Division II of Region 12. Not only did they win the division, but placed fourth in the region tournament held in Panguitch. "Community and school support was a factor in helping the win," stated Principal Rob Goulding. The team's field goal shooting was 44-percent against North Sevier in the team winning fourth 1 in the tournament. Team member Richard I Lyman was also top i scorer of the tourney with 82 points. Alan Bailey, another member of the team, scored 66 points in the tournament. Richard Lyman 6'3" senior at Escalante High School and son of Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Lyman, was selected as one of the ten outstanding athletes of the Region 12 Tournament held at Panguitch. He was recognized as the top scoreman of the tournament with 82 points. He plays forward for the team and is the second leading rebounder for the team, averaging 10 per game. |
