Show Panguitch Water Audit Underway Panguitch City is currently undergoing a "water audit" by Community Consultant, Inc. The Provo firm specializes in engineering projects to improve water and waste water systems. Panguitch City recently received a $28,000 matching grant (80 percent federal funds and 20 percent in kind provided with labor and equipment by the city) to hire the firm. They will evaluate the Panguitch City water system and conduct both commercial and individual testing. They will also locate all leaks, locate and map all valves and check for efficiency, locate, test, repair, if necessary, all water hydrants and locate, test, calibrate, and repair, if necessary, all J water meters. Some 200 water meters have already been assessed by the city as "stopped" or not working properly. They may also take a look at future planning for the sewer system, pressurized water system to channel ditch water, and underground placement of power and telephone lines. However, the prime purpose of the survey will be to determine how efficiently the current water system is operating. They will determine actual water usage of each individual residence so that Panguitch residents can be sure their water usage is being measured accurately. The firm will also conduct a rate study to determine how much it costs Panguitch to operate the system and the degree of efficiency with which it is operated. |
