Show Travel Council Gives Hotline Information In response to increasing demands for fuel information, Utah Travel Council has taken steps to make its energy hotline available on a 24 hour basis. The number 521-8102 is in operation 24 hours and offers Utah callers a recorded message on fuel conditions throughout the state. Information on 10 western states is supplied by the number 533-5681, which is answered by hotline operators from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. An out-of-state toll free number, (800) 453-5794, is also answered by hot-line operators from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. who have information on fuel in Utah and 10 western states. After 6:00 p.m. a recorded message offers information on Utah only. The Utah Travel Council reminds travelers in Utah to utilize the first two numbers since the toll free number is operable from out-of-state only. Alton Frazier, director of the Travel Council sees the energy hotline not only as a safeguard for travelers but also as an incentive forencouraging travel within the state. "Utah is very fortunate," said Frazier, "to not have experienced the problems other states few months of the energy crunch. There has been an excellent response to Governor Matheson's appeal for observance of the 55 mph speed limit and to his proclamation to make this summer a chance to 'Rediscover Utah'. We receive more requests each day for travel information from Utahns and place great value on the peace of mind the hotline offers travelers." The Utah Energy Hotline has been in operation for one month and is a public service of the Utah Travel Council. |
