Show Citation Awarded To Former Panguitch Man Former Panguitch resident received a citation from the president of the United States for outstanding meritorious service as Operations Officer and Search and Rescue Cordinator on the Staff of Commander Iceland Defense Force from October, 1975 through November, 1977. Lt Bruce N. Heywood from the United States Naval Reserve received the Meritorious Service Medal for his superb performance during this period which was instrumental in the saving of 45 lives within and around Iceland and resulted in frequent and highly favorable Icelandic press covciuf of the United Stater Military force in this highly important and visible humanitarian endeavor. The exceptional professional knowledge, leaderhip, and organizational ability displayed by him In carrying out his duties as a member of two Joint United States Icelandic Aviation Committees were recognized and widely respected by the Icelandic Life Saving Association snd Icelandic aviation agencies In this latter capacity, Lt. Heywood played a significant role in the development of aviation improvement programs in Iceland. By his untiring efforts, resourcefulness, and selfless devotion to duty, Lt. Heywood reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. |
