Panguitch, was featured as artist of week at annual "Oktoberfest" Artists in Action at Panguitch Artist Featured For Sculpturing Ability at Snowbird One of two featured artists of the week during the annual "Oktoberfest" Artists in Action at Snowbird Sept. 8 through 10 is a native of Garfield County. "Portrait Sculpture can easily be described as one of the most fascinating and difficult art forms," representatives of the event said of the many pieces of sculptured farms by LaRae Williams, Panguitch, who displayed them at the weekend festival. Originally from Escalante, LaRae spent the first part of her life on a cattle ranch in Boulder. It was here, at the age of 9 she painted her first public work on a sandrock cliff, demonstrating a potential that would later develop. After attending art classes at Brigham Young University and Southern Utah State College, LaRae moved to California where she studied sculpture with Milton Mickelsen, sculptor and instructor at Los Angeles City College. Her work can be seen at "The Rock House", her studio in Panguitch where she now resides. "This was a very choice experience," Snowbird during past weekend. She displayed many of her sculptured works of art LaRae said. There are different artists featured throughout the summer weekends from Memorial Day Weekend throughout September Fifteen artists displayed and sold their work at the "Oktoberfest" and two artists of the week were featured. The second was Hell a Pope featured because of her German artistic ability. Her talents went along with Snowbird's annual German Festival, "Oktober- fest" After graduating from a commercial art and display school in Dusseldorf, Germany, Hella worked in London as a commercial artist until she moved to Utah 17 years ago "She brings to Utah an authenticity in folk art that can only come from someone who has been raised in Europe, where people have been adorning their walls, furniture and home exteriors with folk art for nun dreds of years." stated a brochure describing Hella. LaRae said there were contests all weekend. Music is played from noon til after dark each night. Talent is displayed throughout the three-day period such as singing, acrobatics, art and music. Artists are featured only by invitation after the artists work has been studied by representatives of Snowbird. "Sunday, 4,000 people attended the function," LaRae stated. She said she appreciated the opportunity to display her sculptured art pieces and felt the association she had with the participants she will was an experience remember for a long time |
