Show RARE H Open Houses Planned in Panguitch Dixie National Forest Supervisor Merlin I. Bishop announced that district ranger's offices at St. George, Cedar City, Panguitch, Escalante, and Teasdale will hold "open house" on September 14, 15. and 16. The purpose of the ' 'open house' ' is so the public can discuss any aspect of the Roadless Area Review and Evaluation (RARE II) with a knowledgeable Forest Service employee, and so they can deliver their verbal or written views to him. The hours will be 3 to 8 p.m. on September 14 and 15, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 16. The Forest Service welcomes comments from the public on any part of this wilderness designation process. However, of particular value are comments that identify and recommend specific roadless areas for inclusion in either the nation's wilderness system or for non-wilderness. In addition, comments are needed on what criteria and what process the Forest Service should use in determining the ultimate size and locations of its wilderness areas. All written comments received by October 1, 1978, will be considered in the decision making process. Persons making comments will receive early in 1979, a summary report explaining the agency's final recommendations to Congress and those factors used in rendering the recommendation, with emphasis on how public comment was used. In June of this year, a draft environmental statement was issued on the RARE II process. The statement contains information on each roadless area and describes several alternative ideas on wilderness allocation that the public may wish to consider. In the period of time since the statement was issued, a few minor errors in acreage and resource data have been found in the document. Copies of the draft statement with the corrected data can be obtained at the ranger district offices. |
