Show Bryce Canyon Upgrading Program Underway; To Cost $1.8-Million BRYCE CANYON - Bryce Canyon National Park has swung into a $8.1 million dollar program to be completed over the next five years to upgrade and revamp park roads and trails and historical buildings in the park, according to Park Administrator Thomas Hobbs The first project, recently completed, was redoing the inside of the park lodge kitchen at a cost of $53,000 This in eluded new ceilings, walls, floors, plumbing, electrical work and lighting The kitchen is better arranged to w handle the large crowds at meal times The water system will be completely redone by October, 1979 The $1 million dollar project will be under construction this fall. All lines will be replaced and buried deep enough to enable winter use without freezing Replaced will be 2R.820 feet of 6-inch water lines; 17,100 feet of 3-inch water lines from the main lines to the campgrounds, camp and residential areas. Rainbow Point will be refurbished by rebuilding the trails and adding rock walls and placing new interpretive devices along the trails. Also the picnic area will be upgraded This project will cost an estimated $234,000 Another $25,000 has been set aside to put a new roof on the old administration building presently being used as the day school classroom. The inside and outside of the building will be painted A $12,000 sign program has also been planned. All the park information signs along the highways will be changed. At the present time the signs being used are about 25ears-old, Hobbs said. The signs will look similar to how they now look but will be new. The purpose of the revamping programs is to help make the many beautiful areas of the national park more accessible to the public. |
